However, if you'd like to bundle your insurance with your car hire, all of the rentals we compare in the USA includes zero excess and a full to full fuel policy. It's worth keeping this in mind when you compare our prices to those on some other websites.

A fuel policy is the agreement for how your car hire fuel will be paid for. All of the rentals on our website include a full to full fuel policy. This is the best option as it means there are no extra fuel related fees so long as you return the car with a full tank.

To collect your car the lead driver should present a valid driver's license, passport or National Identity Card, Credit or debit card in the lead driver's name, Home and local (hotel, villa etc) address and a rental Booking confirmation email. Any other requirements at collection are clearly explained in your booking confirmation email.

You can find options including extra drivers on the search results page of our website. You can also choose to pay for an extra driver when you collect the car. The additional driver will need their drivers licence and passport so that the car rental company can add them to the insurance.

All the rentals we offer include a free cancellation policy. This means that you're able to cancel your car hire with a full refund at any point up until 48 hours before you collect the car.
When you purchase the Essential Cover product to insure your car hire excess, you can cancel this and receive a full refund anytime up until the booking start time.
All refunds are processed by us in less than 24 hours. If you have to cancel your rental, the refund will be in your account in 7 days.

[H3] Hiring a Car with Unlimited Mileage

We offer limited and unlimited mileage rentals.
Limited mileage rentals can often be less expensive than unlimited. When considering limited mileage rentals, the mileage allowance is always clearly displayed. If you decide to book a rental with limited mileage, you will be charged an additional fee if you go above the daily mileage allowance. The total mileage allowance for the whole rental is calculated as (the number of hire days multiplied by the daily allowance). You don't have to remain within the daily allowance on every day, provided that the total miles used during the rental doesn't go over the number of days X the daily limit.

At the collection desk, you will often be asked to leave a security deposit on your credit card or debit card. Security deposits can vary significantly dependent on the size of the car and the insurance excess . Car rental Security deposits can range between £50 and £2,100.
We compare all of the car hire options with a low security deposit and in some instances no deposit at all except for fuel. If you decide to book a rental with Premium Cover included, you can reduce the deposit to cover only fuel (often less than £100), this is refunded to your card when the vehicle is dropped off with a full tank.

If you want to collect your rental and take it across the border into a different country, be sure to check the terms and conditions. Almost all car hire brands require that you inform them when you collect the car; and will charge additional fees to top up the insurance. If you fail to do so, you might find that your rental will not be insured if you take the rental into a different country.

You're allowed to use your own child seats for your car rental, as long as they meet the legal safety requirements for use in your car hire location.
You'll also be offered the option to add them to your car rental when making a booking on the website. Child seats and booster seats are paid for in the local currency when picking up the car. Although it's highly unusual for them to be unavailable, their availability is not guaranteed by most car rental companies

The excess is the amount you'd be required to pay if the vehicle is stolen, written off or severely damaged. The excess amount on rental Cars can be very high. It's often between £900 to £2,000. If the Car is returned damaged, or it's stolen or written off, you will have to pay some or all of the excess.
When you arrive to collect the hire Car, the excess is held on your card as something called a 'pre authorised' transaction. Pre Auth means that the money is not taken from your credit card as a normal payment, it's held as a pending payment until you return the vehicle. Excess reimbursement insurance also tends to cover other potential costs, like cleaning, towing, admin fees and misfuelling fees.

For rentals outside of the US and Canada there's almost always an insurance excess held on your card* - this is similar to the excess on your own van in the UK. However, the excess on rental vans can be very high. It's often between £1,100 to £2,500. If you decide not to cover the insurance excess amount you could be liable to pay for damage to the van up to the excess amount.
