Burial disbursements

existing headstone is erected and if it has to be removed prior to interment, how many previous interments there has been within the plot, the size that the grave needs to be opened to
accomodate the coffin, the remaining depth of the grave. There could be other factors which affect the cost and availability not mentioned here and we will be able to provide an accurate estimate for
exacting requirements.

We would usually require full payment of the funeral account 3 business days before the funeral date. If someone is struggling with paying for the funeral we can
help. Please contact us for more information.

Houghtons Funeral Directors Ltd Terms of Business

When we, Houghtons Funeral Directors Ltd provide an estimate of charges we will ask the applicant to sign our estimate accepting the estimate of charges and our terms and conditions.
Below are our terms and conditions (where 'I' being the applicant)

1 The Arrangements
I acknowledge that the company is only responsible to me for those parts of the funeral arrangements which it performs itself. I accept that although the company
will as a matter of course make all other necessary arrangements with third parties on my behalf (such as Clergy, Cemeteries, Crematoria, etc ) and will charge these services as disbursements on its
invoice, it will do so as my agent. Accordingly the third parties involved, and not the company, will be responsible to me for provision of these services. The third parties will charge the company
for these services and the company will charge me for these, shown as disbursements on the invoice at the suppliers normal rate.

2 Date/Times etc.
I accept that all dates and times for the funeral can not be guaranteed until final bookings are made and confirmed. I also acknowledge that on occasion the
company is forced to make other minor changes to funeral arrangements due to circumstances beyond its control. I understand that, where possible, all such changes will be notified to me in advance,
but that the company can not be held responsible for them or delays in transit caused by road works, adverse weather, traffic congestion or mechanical failure and the company's charges will remain
payable in full.

3 The Final Charges
I acknowledge that the company's final account may vary from the estimate, to take account of the disbursements costs which are shown on the estimate as best
estimates only. I agree that the company may also add on to its final acrount any charges for additional items requested later. The total shown on the estimate is on the basis of manual addition.
When addition errors on the estimate are noticed later the company reserves the right to change the corrected total.

4 Payment arrangements
As the signatory of this contract I agree to be personally responsible for paying the company's charges and disbursements in full. This will also be the case for
any balance of dlarges which, in applicable places, is not discharged by the nominated payer, the DWP or from the deceased estate.
Full payment is due three working days prior to the funeral. The funeral may be postponed or cancelled if payment is not received by this date. If you fail to pay
us in full on the due date we may charge you interest;
at a rate of 8% above our bank's base rate from time to time in force;
calculated (on a daily basis) from the date of our account until payment;
compounded on the first day of each month; and
before and after any judgment (unless a court orders otherwise).
We may recover (under clause 3) the cost of taking legal action to make you pay.

5 Indemnity
You are to indemnify us in full and hold us harmless from all expenses and liabilities we may incur (directly or indirectly including financing costs and
including legal costs on a full indemnity basis) following any breach by you of any of your obligations under these terms
This means that you are liable to us for losses we incur because you do not comply with these terms, for example we will charge you an administration fee where we
receive a cheque from you which is subsequently not honoured or if we write to remind you that an account is overdue. If we instruct debt collection agents we may also recover the fees we incur from
you. Further details regarding these fees are available on request. We may claim those losses from you at any time and if we have to take legal action we will ask the court to make you pay our legal
costs.

6 Data Protection
Words shown in italics are defined in the Data Protection Act 1998 ("the Act").
We respect the confidential nature of the information given to us and, where you provide us with personal data ("data") we will ensure that the data will be held
securely, in confidence and processed for the purpose of carrying out our services. In order to provide our services we may need to pass such data to third parties and those third parties, who are
performing some of the services for you, may contact you directly. Under the Act you have the right to know what data we hold on you and you can, by applying to us in writing and paying a fee,
receive copies of that data.

7 Cooling-Off Period
The Cancellation of Consumer Contracts made in the Consumer's Home or Place of Work etc Regulations 2008 may give you the right to terminate an agreement with us
in the cooling-off period of 14 days. If you wish the performance of the agreement to which this right applies to commence before the end of the cooling-off period, you must sign the authority in the
form. In the event that you exercise the right to cancel this contract during the cooling-off period, you will be required to pay a reasonable amount for goods and services already
supplied.

8 Termination
This agreement may also be terminated before the services are delivered: (1) by us if you fail to honour your obligations under these Terms and (2) by you
communicating to us in writing, terminating your instructions.
If we or you terminate your instructions you, depending upon the reasons for termination, may be asked to pay a reasonable amount based upon the work carried out
up to the time your termination is received.

[H3] Cremation or Burial without a funeral service

A direct cremation or immediate burial is a simple and respectful service from Houghtons in which a deceased is cremated or interred without a funeral service or
ceremony. Sometimes it is known as an unattended simple cremation or burial and is our lowest cost cremation/burial service.

For those who prefer a no-fuss approach to saying goodbye this offering gives families flexibility, affordability and privacy during a
difficult time.

Included in our Unattended Cremation or Burial Service:
Collection of the deceased from a hospital, care home or private residence
Care and preparation of the deceased in accordance with legal and ethical standards
Completion of all necessary paperwork, including cremation forms, interment forms and death registration support
Transportation to the crematorium or cemetery
Cremation at a local licensed crematorium of our choice without attendees (for burial see below)
Return or scattering of ashes, depending on the family's wishes
Why Choose Direct Cremation or Burial?
Cost-effective: Avoids the expenses of a traditional funeral (e.g. venue hire, flowers, hearses)
Flexible: Families can hold a personal memorial when and how they choose
Private and peaceful: Ideal for those who prefer a quiet farewell without ceremony
Modern and minimal: Appeals to those who value simplicity and practicality
What can I expect if I choose this type of service?

The deceased will be brought into our care in one of our private ambulances during normal office hours and cared for while the
administration and documentation element is completed. We will liase with the Medical Examiner's Office or Coroner's Office to obtain the necessary cremation or burial paperwork. Once the
registration process has been completed we will act swiftly and efficiently so that the cremation or burial takes place as soon as possible, usually within 7 business days. We can notify the
applicant of the cremation date and which crematorium we will use.
We will collect the cremated remains from the crematoria if required and advise the applicant when they are able to collect them from
us.

The cost of our direct cremation service is £999

If the applicant would like to use Walton Lea Crematorium or Widnes Crematorium for the cremation the cost of our direct cremation service is £1295

For immediate burial we will provide a quote to the requirement of the applicant.

Indicative cost of immediate burial:
(a) If there is an existing grave within Warrington Cemetery and the deceased lived over 90% of their life in Warrington and the grave
owner is either still alive or the owner is the deceased the total cost would be £1773 (the original grave deed must be produced and excludes any transfer of ownership)
(b) If a new grave is required at Warrington Cemetery or Fox Covert Cemetery and the new owner of the grave lives in Warrington and the
deceased lived over 90% of their life in Warrington the total cost would be £3120 (This includes the purchase of the Exclusive Right of Burial for 50 years)

What if I want to visit the deceased before the cremation or burial?

If the applicant wishes to visit the deceased we would make the
necessary preparations to ensure that this final visit would be the best experience possible. This would be during normal office hours and there is no charge for this
visit.

Would the deceased need
embalming?

No embalming is not always necessary but could have a positive
influence on the viewing experience and extend the preservation of the deceased enabling chapel visits before the cremation date.

Do you offer this as a funeral plan?

Yes we are pleased to offer this unattended cremation service option as a funeral plan.
Please click here for more information or click the button below.

If you would like more information and advice on how we can help in the planning of a direct
cremation or burial service please contact us. You will be guided by our experienced caring professionals to undertake the arrangements for you or your loved one.

At Houghtons we know that any death can be stressful, physically and emotionally draining and even though we never can have enough time with the people we love,
sometimes there can be a sense of relief that someone is at peace and free from pain.

Sudden, unexpected deaths are different.

These can be traumatic and life changing because they are more likely to happen to
healthy mid life adults, young people and children through an accident, suicide or an undiagnosed medical reason and while sudden deaths have very
varying causes we know people and families, bereaved by these deaths, have no time to prepare for their loss or say goodbye.

Houghtons, through vocation and experience, understand.

Making the first call can be very difficult especially finding the courage to share with someone the tragic series of events. Please
remember that with Houghtons you have someone who will listen, not judge, empathise and help in any way we can. From the first call you will be put at ease by someone who cares and is experienced in
helping families who have suddenly found themselves in similar situations. At all times we respect that our conversations can be sensitive, sometimes emotional and always private.

Special arrangements for babies and children

Losing a child is the most painful experience a family can face and it is difficult to make any decisions and choices whilst feeling so empty and
vulnerable.

Everybody at Houghtons understands the importance of unity at such a devastating time and so over the following days we will help you give careful consideration to
the choices that are available along with the support and advice you would expect from experienced compassionate professionals to plan the funeral.

For the funerals of those under 24 weeks, babies and children up to 17 years
we do not charge for our services.

Everything we can do, we will do to make sure that visits to our chapels of rest are as peaceful and cathartic for the family as
possible. Nothing is too much trouble.

We understand that your child is your child no matter
how old or young they may be and that you will want to take care of them in your way for as long as possible. We will always try to facilitate the family's needs whether that be in our chapels
or in their home.

Baby Loss Certificate
[H1] Until today, Thursday 22nd February 2024, babies stillborn before 24 weeks could not
be officially registered, which many grieving parents and families we have helped have said have left them feeling as though their loss for their baby was not acknowledged. This new scheme
launched today is voluntary but aims to recognise formally the impact that the loss of a baby has during pregnancy. More information is available from the official Government pages which can be accessed by clicking here

Your Diagnosis

Before revealing the machine’s verdict, predict the BS score for each signal. Higher = more BS (more fluff, less verifiable substance). Drag each slider, then submit to compare your judgment against the engine.

Information Density 0 / 30
Read the Narrative & headings: do hard facts (prices, dates, numbers) outweigh fluff power-words?
Semantic Coherence 0 / 20
Compare the homepage promise against the sub-page reality. Do they hold the same line?
Trust & Proof 0 / 20
Weigh review mentions against actual external proof links. Claims without verification = theatre.
Commodity Fingerprint 0 / 15
Check headings & narrative against the industry clichés in the setup above.
Identity & Authority 0 / 15
Inspect the schema: is there real Organization/Person identity with sameAs links, or gaps?
Your predicted BS score 0 / 100
💡 Stuck? Reveal the heuristic lens — how the deterministic page-auditor reads each signal (no AI, pure pattern rules)

These are the structural rules a local, deterministic auditor applies — the same lens you can use to judge each signal. They describe what to look for, not this company’s result.

Information Density

Classify each sentence as substantive or hollow. Grounding markers — numbers, currencies, dates, technical units, named entities — outweigh marketing adjectives. When fluff sits right next to hard evidence, the fluff is forgiven.

Semantic Alignment

Pull the main entities out of the H1, then check whether they actually recur through the body. A page that announces one thing and then talks about another drifts. Headings with no real sentences underneath read as pseudo-substance.

Trust & Proof

Count trust words (review, testimonial, rating, verified) against real outbound proof links (Google, Trustpilot, Clutch, G2, Yelp). Lots of trust language with zero verification links is trust theatre. Unlinked logo galleries count against it.

Commodity Fingerprint

Look at how much sentence length varies. Natural writing varies its rhythm; templated or mass-produced copy is statistically uniform. Very low variation reads as commodity content — unless unique named entities break the pattern.

Identity & Authority

Inspect the JSON-LD. Is there an Organization or Person schema, and does it carry sameAs links to real external profiles (LinkedIn, socials)? Missing schema or no identity declaration signals an anonymous entity.

Want to apply this lens yourself? The free BS Indicator Chrome extension runs these heuristic checks live on any page. Bear in mind it is a single-page, deterministic tool — it relies only on pattern rules for the page in front of it and does not perform the cross-page semantic correlation this audit uses, so its readout is a starting lens, not the full verdict.

Houghtons Funeral Directors is a rare example of a ‘Low BS’ service site that prioritizes statutory transparency and local utility over marketing theater. Its pricing data is exceptionally current, providing figures through 2027, which proves active maintenance and operational honesty. The only significant ‘bullshit’ is technical: a lack of structured data to back up its legitimate local authority.

Implement LocalBusiness and Organization JSON-LD schema to bridge the technical authority gap. Add a Meet the Team page with short professional bios of the Houghton family to humanize the ‘independent family owned’ claim. Convert the static review counts into verifiable widgets linking to Google Business Profile or NAFD Resolve to eliminate trust theatre flags. Ensure every page has a single, descriptive H1 tag to match the high-quality body substance with professional SEO standards.

The content perfectly matches the funeral services industry, specifically focusing on local service provision in Warrington, Runcorn, and Widnes. It demonstrates a high level of sector-specific knowledge through the inclusion of detailed disbursement costs, statutory cooling-off periods, and local authority partnerships.

“The score of 20 is driven primarily by the Identity and Authority pillar (10 points) due to the total absence of structured data and the technical failure of missing H1 headers. The site scored near-zero on Information Density and Semantic Coherence because it provides actual prices, dates, and names. A minor penalty (4 points) was applied in Trust and Proof for displaying review counts without verification links.”
