[H5] Do you fit flooring?

We can absolutely help to arrange fitting for your new Tapi flooring. Professional independent fitters are able to fit a variety of flooring such as carpet, luxury vinyl tiles, laminate, vinyl flooring, engineered wood, underlay and accessories, anywhere in your home. Whether you want carpet on your stairs or laminate in your living room, they can do it all! Fitting is an additional service that's paid directly to the fitter on the day of installation. Take a look at our fitting guide for more information, or please feel free to ask a member of Team Tapi in-store and they'll answer any questions you may have regarding our fitting service.

We also offer a 5-year fitting guarantee on all flooring installed by a recommended fitter.

[H5] Do you move furniture out of the room before fitting new flooring?

Yes! If you need the fitters to move furniture out of your room(s) before fitting new flooring, that can be arranged! In general, it’s best to get as much furniture out of the room as possible. If you've purchased the Delivery & Care Package, then the fitters will remove a reasonable amount of empty furniture from the room. If the furniture that needs to be removed is heavy or large and requires more than one person to lift it, please inform us when you're placing your order so we can make the fitters aware. In some circumstances, we may be able to offer a ‘room clearance’ service; if you require this, please ask in-store for more information on what this service entails. Please note, the fitters are unable to move electrical or plumbed in items.

[H5] I’ve measured my flooring myself or have the measurements available, do I still need a Home Visit?

We can provide a quotation and order your flooring without a Home Visit if you have your own measurements available. In some circumstances, such as for stairs and landings, we may prefer to send our skilled estimators out to view your home to ensure the future installation is carried out smoothly. Where your choice of flooring is changing to a different type e.g. from carpet to laminate, we would again suggest you book a Home Visit. But if you feel this is unnecessary, we can proceed with the sizes we have been provided.

[H5] Do you offer additional fitting services?

From uplifting and removing your old flooring, to preparing your new subfloor with screed or ply board, the fitters can carry out a range of additional services if required. If you arrange to have your home measured before ordering, we can highlight any additional services you may need and discuss the options available. Many of the independent fitters we use will trim doors, but not all of them do, so please mention this to us if you need this service.

We can arrange to uplift and dispose of your old flooring before laying your new flooring; however, this is an additional service which is added onto the fitting charge. We always advise customers to uplift their own flooring as it can become quite a messy job if you’ve had your flooring down for a long time!

[H5] What is the Delivery & Care package?

We keep our prices low by being transparent and not building hidden costs into the overall price of your flooring. That’s why, if you would like us to arrange delivery and fitting for you, you will need to purchase our Delivery & Care Package for £39.99.

The Tapi Delivery & Care Package includes:
- Preparing, packaging and delivering your new flooring.
- Removing a reasonable amount of empty furniture (for larger items, please clarify in store so we can prepare the team) and replacing them afterwards.
- A complimentary tidy-up to ensure you can enjoy your new flooring right away!
- Removing any offcuts leftover from the installation. The fitters will do this on the day of fitting; they’ll return these back to the store and we'll dispose of them for you. If you want to keep these, please make the fitter aware.
- 8 weeks of storage from the point of order.

Choosing our Delivery & Care package qualifies you for the 5-year fitting guarantee, which covers your flooring for 5 years from the invoice date.

[H5] What is subfloor preparation?

Subfloor preparation means making sure the subfloor that your new flooring will be fitted on top of is in good condition. The professional independent fitters we use offer a huge choice of services to help prepare your bare flooring to ensure a perfect finish. The Tapi estimators and home consultants will be able to point out any potential concerns that may need to be addressed prior to fitting as well as providing a quotation for the services if they have access to confirm the condition of your subfloor. We will not be able to ascertain if your subfloor requires extra preparatory work if your existing flooring is in situ at the time of the inspection. [H5] Where can I get a quote for fitting carpet, laminate, or vinyl flooring?

A member of Team Tapi will provide you with a quote for fitting your new flooring when discussing your flooring purchase, whether that's in store or during a home visit. We're unable to provide a quote for fitting flooring not purchased from Tapi, and we don't fit or supply artificial grass.

[H5] Do I need expansion gaps?

Expansion gaps are needed for any wood-based flooring such as laminate and engineered wood. This is to give the flooring space to expand and contract during temperature changes in the room. Have a look at our laminate expansion gap guide to find out more.

[H5] How much does fitting cost?

Fitting costs have a number of varying factors such as the type of flooring, the location in which it will be fitted, and the size of the flooring being fitted. Here are the fitting costs:

Carpet - £5.50 sqm
Vinyl - £6.75 sqm
Laminate - £15 sqm
Click LVT - £15 sqm
Dryback LVT - £17.50 sqm
Engineered Wood - £26 sqm

(This also includes a small fee for arranging the fitting with independent fitters. Minimum fitting costs also apply and rates are slightly higher inside the M25)

[H5] Will you uplift and remove my old flooring?

Once you’ve placed an order with us, we can arrange for a professional independent fitter to take up your old flooring and remove it for you, too. There will be a charge for this uplift and removal service, payable to the fitter on the day of the fitting. The cost for uplifting and removing your old carpet and underlay varies, depending on how much old flooring needs to be removed and how easy it is to remove. We only offer this extra service to customers who’ve ordered new carpet or flooring with us.

[H5] I have a fitting confirmation but no time slot, what should I do?

Don't worry! You'll receive an email the day before reminding you of your fitting date, and on the day of fitting, you'll receive a call from the fitter letting you know when they'll arrive. If you have any questions about your upcoming fitting, please contact your local Tapi store.

[H5] Do you offer door trimming?

Many of the independent fitters we use offer door trimming as an additional service if it's needed, although they are unable to perform this task on fire doors for safety reasons. If you’re worried your new carpet might not fit with your current doors, please let a member of staff in-store know so we can advise you accordingly.

[H5] Do I have to purchase the Delivery and Care package?

Not at all! We want to offer you the flexibility of choosing who installs your new flooring. We recommend letting us arrange fitting with a professional independent fitter, but if you plan to fit the carpet yourself or make your own arrangements, there's no need to purchase the Delivery & Care package. If you decide not to go for our Delivery & Care package, then you'll need to arrange for collection of your flooring or pay a delivery fee (from £25).

[H5] What is the 5-Year Fitting Guarantee?

The 5-year fitting guarantee is available when your flooring is purchased from Tapi together with appropriate underlay and accessories, and when your fitting service is arranged by us with a recommended fitter, and any recommended subfloor work has been completed prior to installation. The flooring must stay in the original location and cannot be moved or tampered with and should be maintained according to our recommendations as per the Tapi Care Guide. At Tapi, we aim to provide useful advice that can help improve the appearance of your carpet and its longevity, so you can enjoy that soft luxurious feel for longer.

Oh no! It’s always a panic-inducing moment when you see that glass of red wine tip over in slow motion onto your plush cream carpet, but the quicker you act, the less chance there is of it staining. You should have received a Tapi floor care guide by email when you placed your order, but you can also find out more in our carpet care guide, as well as our top tips on removing stains from your carpet.

Yes! Fitting carpet or any other type of flooring purchased from Tapi is an additional service we can arrange with professional independent fitters if you need us to. The carpet fitting service costs £5.50 per m2 - just let us know if you want fitting included in your quote. We can also arrange to uplift and remove your old carpet at the same time for an additional fee. If you decide you just want to order carpet from us and use your own carpet fitter or lay the carpet yourself, that's absolutely fine.

We're frequently asked how much it costs to carpet a room, and the answer is that it depends on lots of different things: the type of carpet, the size of the room(s), how many rooms, the type of underlay, the location it will be fitted, and which accessories you choose, among many other things.

To give you an idea, our cheapest carpets start from £4.99 per m2 and our charge for fitting carpet is £5.30 per m2, so it costs less than £240 to carpet a small 3x4 metre room (including underlay, door bars, and grippers). We can also uplift and remove your old flooring for an additional cost, and this is something we can arrange for you when you place your order. Our flooring experts will be able to talk you through the costs of fitting a new carpet when you visit us in-store or book a home visit, but there's also a handy flooring cost calculator on all of our carpet product pages to give you an estimate of how much your floor will cost (excluding fitting).

How you clean your carpet will depend on what type of carpet you have – while some carpets will only need a regular vacuum, other carpets may need more care to ensure they keep their shape and colour, especially in busy rooms or rooms with a plenty of sunlight. Different types of stains will require different methods of cleaning – for example, red wine needs to be blotted multiple times with different solutions before it can be dried and brushed, whereas small burn marks can sometimes be dealt with right away by snipping the ends of your carpet fibres. [H3] What is luxury vinyl flooring?

Luxury vinyl tiles, or LVT, is a type of flooring that’s designed to replicate the look of other materials. Each tile is made of layered vinyl, topped with a scratch-resistant and stain-resistant wear layer for added durability. Some designs also feature a built-in underlay for easy installation.

[H3] How should I clean my new LVT flooring?

To clean LVT flooring, sweep or vacuum loose debris, then use a damp mop and a pH-neutral vinyl cleaner to remove any stubborn marks or stains. Avoid using too much water, as moisture can damage LVT if it gets into the tiny gaps between tiles. [H3] Are luxury vinyl tiles waterproof?

LVT flooring is technically waterproof, but the seals between tiles aren’t 100% watertight, meaning moisture can seep through the surface and cause damage. Because of this, LVT can resist spills and splashes in the short term, but it’s best to avoid prolonged exposure to lots of water.

[H3] How do I lay LVT flooring?

The process of installing LVT can vary depending on the style of planks you choose. Glue-down LVT, for example, requires an adhesive to stick directly to your subfloor, while click LVT is designed to snap into place. Our LVT installation guide can help you lay your tiles perfectly.

[H3] Can LVT be fitted over existing wooden or laminate flooring?

Unfortunately not - real wood moves and breathes, so fitting LVT on top of a wooden floor can stop the air from getting to it and cause many issues. If you've got a wooden parquet floor, this will have to come up before a new floor can go down. You also can't lay LVT on top of laminate, as laminate is a wood-based floating floor that needs room to expand and contract in different temperatures.

[H3] Do I need underlay for LVT?

Luxury vinyl doesn't require traditional underlay, and all our current ranges of click LVT have underlay already built in, making installation a breeze! With dryback LVT, you can either use HT adhesive or our LVT flexible self-adhesive 'underlay' - a sticky sheet that can be trimmed to size that's so quick and easy to install. Our flexi underlay is also compatible with click LVT.
