[H5] A little about our 40 year history MainStage™ has enjoyed 40 years of success, which we attribute to our customers and the hard work of our employees. Opened in 1981, MainStage™ is owned by brothers Craig and Dean Sternke, who remain very involved in the management of the company. Craig, President, has worked in the entertainment supply field since 1975. His past experience includes training at the UW-Milwaukee Theatre Department and free-lance scene and lighting design in the Milwaukee area. Dean, Vice-President, has worked in the entertainment supply field since 1977. He completed four years in the Technical Theatre Program at the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee, and his background includes free-lance lighting and scene design in the Milwaukee area and consultations for renovation and new construction of theatres and churches. He is a past Chairperson of the United States Institute of Theatre Technology - Midwest Section. Both Sternkes worked for a Milwaukee, Wisconsin theatrical supplier in the 1980’s, but were frustrated when their employer would not offer new products and technology to the local market. When offered a Rosco Laboratories dealership, they decided to take the plunge; MainStage operations began August, 1981, in a small basement office in Milwaukee. They began by offering color media – the then new Roscolux and full line of Rosco products - and vinyl acrylic scenic paints from Muralo, closely followed by then emerging digital dimmer-per-circuit systems, first from Kliegl Bros., followed shortly thereafter by Electronic Theatre Controls, a fledgling company at that time. Craig and Dean also manufactured stage curtains. The business expanded to Pensacola, FL in 1992 when Dean moved to the Florida Panhandle. The company acquired Stage Lighting South in Memphis, TN in 2004, allowing north to south coverage in the central portion of the country. What was a satellite presence in Houston, TX became a formal office in 2015 which has recently opened an additional warehouse to accommodate rapidly expanding operations. Currently, there is also local presence in New Orleans, LA and South/Central Florida. MainStage continues to research and offer leading edge equipment to benefit our customers by cost or technical advantages. We bolster that effort with the best new technology from quality manufacturers as the market rapidly changes to LED lighting, motorized rigging and Ethernet based control systems. In recent years, MainStage work has become increasingly concentrated in the construction arena; new build, renovation and retrofit have become a large portion of our work. That doesn’t mean we have left behind our equipment, supply and service roots, though – our construction customers often turn to MainStage, as their need for product and service doesn’t disappear when the construction is complete. Your Diagnosis
Before revealing the machine’s verdict, predict the BS score for each signal. Higher = more BS (more fluff, less verifiable substance). Drag each slider, then submit to compare your judgment against the engine.
Stuck? Reveal the heuristic lens — how the deterministic page-auditor reads each signal (no AI, pure pattern rules)
These are the structural rules a local, deterministic auditor applies — the same lens you can use to judge each signal. They describe what to look for, not this company’s result.
Classify each sentence as substantive or hollow. Grounding markers — numbers, currencies, dates, technical units, named entities — outweigh marketing adjectives. When fluff sits right next to hard evidence, the fluff is forgiven.
Pull the main entities out of the H1, then check whether they actually recur through the body. A page that announces one thing and then talks about another drifts. Headings with no real sentences underneath read as pseudo-substance.
Count trust words (review, testimonial, rating, verified) against real outbound proof links (Google, Trustpilot, Clutch, G2, Yelp). Lots of trust language with zero verification links is trust theatre. Unlinked logo galleries count against it.
Look at how much sentence length varies. Natural writing varies its rhythm; templated or mass-produced copy is statistically uniform. Very low variation reads as commodity content — unless unique named entities break the pattern.
Inspect the JSON-LD. Is there an Organization or Person schema, and does it carry sameAs links to real external profiles (LinkedIn, socials)? Missing schema or no identity declaration signals an anonymous entity.
Want to apply this lens yourself? The free BS Indicator Chrome extension runs these heuristic checks live on any page. Bear in mind it is a single-page, deterministic tool — it relies only on pattern rules for the page in front of it and does not perform the cross-page semantic correlation this audit uses, so its readout is a starting lens, not the full verdict.

Arts, Culture & Entertainment BS: MainStage Theatrical Supply, Inc. (mainstage.com)
MainStage is a legitimate, high-substance business currently hiding behind a stale and technically neglected digital presence. The BS score is driven by missing schema and outdated tenure claims rather than deceptive marketing or empty value propositions. It is a rare case where the real-world business is likely more impressive than the website representing it.
Update all ’40 years’ references to the current 45-year tenure to eliminate the stale content penalty. Implement Organization and Person schema (JSON-LD) to verify the expertise of the Sternke brothers and link to their USITT credentials. Replace the fragmented H1 on the homepage with a complete, benefit-driven statement such as ‘MainStage: Custom Rigging and Lighting Systems Since 1981.’ Add a ‘Featured Projects’ gallery naming specific venues like the ‘UW-Milwaukee Theatre’ mentioned in the history to provide concrete proof paths.
The site aligns perfectly with the Arts, Culture & Entertainment industry, specifically in the niche of technical theatre infrastructure. The content focuses on the tangible hardware (rigging, lighting, curtains) required to facilitate cultural programming and artistic excellence.
“The score of 26 reflects a 'Low BS' rating. The primary drivers of the score are Identity and Authority (7/15) due to missing schema and Information Density (6/30) due to the fragmented H1 and stale 40-year tenure claims. The company's unique history and physical proof (locations) kept the Commodity and Coherence scores very low.”
