[H2] Landscape Renovation Front Yard Planting – Springfield, Delaware County, PA 19064 A large tree had fallen into the front yard and damaged the existing front walk and planting which was already in need of a face lift. It is a shady site; the ground cover was in decent shape and there were some nice ferns in the existing beds. We removed the existing overgrown shrubs, cleaned up added to the ground cover and top-dressed and seeded the lawn. The new cherry laurel will give privacy to the front porch in a couple of years. The brick walk was replaced with a flagstone walk using the old brick as a border. The vent pipe was hidden with a boulder and some perennial liriope, and Caladiums were planted for dependable annual color in the shade. Before After before Annuals [H2] Front Yard Entrance Planting – Drexel Hill, Delaware County, PA 19026 The old planting in front of the house was overgrown and needed a renovation. The new planting is a mixture of shrubs, perennials, bulbs, and annuals; it is primarily meant to be viewed from the street looking at the house. The new shrubs will give additional privacy to the front porch in a couple of years without the closed in feel of the old yews. The planting has a natural feel – the plants were spaced so they would not have to be pruned as heavily as the old planting – and there is a lot of color most of the year. Before After Before After [IMG: Front Planting a few years after planting. Drexel Hill, PA] A few years after Planting. [H2] New Landscaping & New Walk with mostly Deer Resistant Plant Material Paoli, Chester County, PA This entranceway also needed a makeover. While the plants here were not overgrown, they were not thriving, and the homeowner did not like the design. The walk was made of flagstone stepping stones and did not stand out because of the grass surrounding each stone. This job was constructed over a couple of years with the walk and its cobblestone border constructed one year; the cobblestone border around the bed on the other side of the front constructed the next year, along with leaf compost roto-tilled into the bed to improve the soil. The beds were planted in the fall of the 2013, and the planting completed in the spring 2014. Some of the deer resistant plants used were narrow upright ‘Dee Runk’ boxwood, ‘Admiration’ barberry, Pieris, Acuba, ‘Otto Luyken’ cherry laurel, and a few varieties of Azalea, with a couple transplanted from the original planting. The hostas which can sometimes be devoured by deer were transplanted from the side of the house, and were larger leaved varieties that the deer seem to leave alone on this property. The bed was mulched in the fall of 2013 with leaf compost, and in spring of 2014 with 1/2 shredded bark mixed with 1/2 leaf compost, to help improve the soil. Before Walk and Landscaping Before Walk and Landscaping After [IMG: Flagstone Walk with Cobblestones, and Landscaping - Paoli, PA] After Flagstone walk and landscaping [H2] Landscape Renovation – Drexel Hill, Delaware County, PA 19026 The shrubs here were overgrown and hid the front door, and a lot of the nice stonework. We remover the overgrown shrubs and planted new slower growing shrubs and perennials with longer lasting flowers. We did leave the nice low growing Japanese Maple and top-dressed and seeded the lawn. Before After Before After [IMG: Front Landscape Drexel Hill PA] After: a couple years after planting. [H2] Back Yard Japanese Walk with Landscaping – Lower Merion, Montgomery County, PA 19096 The back entrance to this house did not need a solid walk past the first set of steps. This was the main entrance into the house from the driveway so the customer wanted to add some interest. The walk leading around to the deck steps was made more informal with two 1-ft. bands of flagstone and 1-ft. of river rocks in the center. Stepping stones were placed through pea gravel beds surrounded with boulders and river rocks to give an effect similar to stepping stoned through a pond. The design was influenced by Japanese Gardens. Also shown is the same garden about 10 years after planting showing how properly spaced plants will fill in and the landscape will improve over the years. Overcrowded plantings are more expensive to install, and can look better when first planted, but they usually start looking worse after a few years. Before After After with Established Landscaping (about 10 years after planting). [H2] Back Yard Patio, Fountain and Landscaping – Merion Station, Montgomery County, Main Line, PA 19066 This property had a few old plantings against the house, but had recently moved their driveway to the other side, leaving an empty yard on this side of the house. A Bluestone patio and sitting wall was constructed with new beds and renovation of the plantings against the house. The side of the house was improved with a fountain and a Pea Gravel Walk. Before [IMG: Patio, Sitting Wall Landscaping - Merion Station, PA] Flagstone Patio Sitting Wall & Landscaping – Merion PA After: A few years after planting. Before: Side of House During construction: The conduit for the electric is buried under the brick and stone. Garden Fountain & Landscaping – Merion, PA [H2] Front Yard Entrance Planting – Springfield, Delaware County, PA 19064 This front yard planting was mostly just lawn with a narrow bed across the front of the house and a dogwood tree with a pachysandra ground cover. The entire area inside the curved walk was cleared, the grass stripped, and made into a planting bed with shrubs, perennials, grasses, annuals, and river boulders for interest. A small bed was created by the entrance to the walk and the bed was carried across to the other side of the walk and around the house for more interest. See my business profile from Newtown Square Friends & Neighbors magazine by clicking here. I also have a portfolio of my past lighting jobs on this site. Click here We now offer LED Low Voltage Landscape Lighting, and there are many reasons to light up your yard at night. The one I like the best is that it makes your yard much more enjoyable after dark, you can highlight the views that you like while the darkness hides the views that you don’t want to see. High on many people’s list of importance for night lighting is Safety and Security. A yard that is lit up at night will also discourage intruders. Lights can make steps and walks easier for you, your family, and welcome visitors to navigate. A walk doesn’t have to look like an airport runway – small ‘Bullet’ spotlights can reflect light off of buildings and other objects, this can often be brighter and less noticeable than the path lights that are so common, and often misused. Without lights, you would not be able to see or appreciate this at night, and there would be no sense of space in your yard. Now designing and installing LED low voltage landscape lighting to highlight plantings and architectural features of your home. I have taken many seminars from Cast Lighting, Unique Lighting, and FXLuminaire lighting, including three in 2016, and two already in 2017 to keep up with the latest information. We can set up a free, no obligation, demonstration so you can see exactly what we can do for your property and house. Systems starting at $2,000, and retrofits from existing systems to LED lights for less. [H2] Improve The Curb Appeal of Your Home all year long! Light up Your Trees and other plants for spectacular nighttime effects, by highlighting the nicest features of your landscape while the less interesting features are not seen. – Your property can look better at night than during the day. Light up your Entrances, Steps, Walkways, Patios, and other Outdoor Areas for Evening & Nighttime Entertaining or just relaxing with the family. Increased Safety by lighting your walks and steps. A house with lights can also discourage intruders that don’t want to be seen approaching your home. New LED lights can light up your property for less electricity than a couple of 100 Watt light bulbs, and will usually last for over a decade, There is little maintenance needed, unlike the halogen lights commonly used just 5 years ago. Existing Halogen systems can be retrofitted with LED lights, so old systems with many burnt out Halogen lights can be brought back to life with extra long-lasting and energy efficient LED lights. With new technology transformers you can have much more control of when lights turn on and turn off, plus control individual lights from your smartphone including dimming and even the color of the light. Without Landscape Lighting the only light would be the light coming from inside the house, or from harsh spot lights that are commonly used. LED Landscape Lighting complements the House and Landscaping give more light and a softer light, while they use much less electricity. As seen below from the street, the house looks inviting to friends and visitors, while still discouraging intruders that would probably be more attracted to a house where they could not be seen from the street, adding to your safety and security. Water features introduce many interesting elements to your garden including the sound of running water, and different habitats in and around the water for many different types of plants, fish and frogs. A small pond can add another element to your enjoyment of your outdoor living space. If low maintenance is your main goal a pondless waterfall might be just the thing. A small stream of water is like a magnet to the birds on a hot summers day and the sound of a small waterfall or fountain can be very relaxing. This is actually a nice situation for viewing the pond and waterfalls from the house. The placement for the patio and wall is outlined with white paint. Before photo. The hill will allow for more waterfalls, but a waterfall can be constructed in a level back yard by using the soil excavated for the pond to make the hill for the waterfall. Construction of the wall. Tumbled flagstone wall installed on two levels to make a seat around the patio with the top level used as a seat back. The wall completed, and the patio roughly outlined in white. The blacktop must be removed from the patio and pond area. The view of the patio, pond, and wall area from above. The completed patio with a curve built into the corner to allow for the pond in tight to the patio. Before shot of the pond with the wall and completed patio. Pond and stream outlined with white spray paint. White square at the lower right of the pond area is for the skimmer. Soil dug out for the pond. A few shelves were built in for different levels in the pond to facilitate different pond plants Underlayment is installed before the liner. It is the darker gray fabric seen seen at the top of this and the next couple of photos. This helps protect the liner and also helps the soil to release any gases from under the liner. The skimmer is dug in and placed at the proper level (under the liner in the lower right). A 45 mil. one piece EPDM liner is installed over the underlayment; it easily conforms to the shape of the cut out. The stream is also dug out and the Biofalls filter can be seen dug in at the top of the stream. The plumbing is completed between the Biofalls filter and the skimmer. The pond is rocked in on the bottom and sides. The underlayment and liner are installed in the stream and the waterfalls constructed. Extra liner is left along the edges at this time to help prevent water escaping over the top. The stream seen from the top. The liner will be trimmed later, but it is left high to allow for a little settling. The liner is attached to the front of the Biofalls with a special connection. Two large flagstone pieces were used to help make a fish cave to help protect the fish from predators. The fish did not come out with people around for the first month. Eventually they got used to their surroundings and felt safer leaving the cave. The fish cave from below before filling the pond with water. The pond is filled with water and the stone cleaned off. The water at this point had to be pumped out because of all the dust brought in with the stones The completed pond before the water has been cleaned out, and the area landscaped. New steps will also be constructed on the side of the pond. Electric is usually best brought in after construction in case underground obstacles force a different placement of the skimmer. You can see a video of the pond with a few plantings and new steps on YouTube Here is the same pond about 3 years later with the plantings grown, and many of them in full bloom in June on YouTube Here is the pond with lights – taken in March. Night lighting with low voltage LED lights can bring hours of additional beauty to your landscape; plus by highlighting only the best views your yard can look better at night than it does during the day. Here is the view looking out the window from the house. You can see how the proximity to the house can be used to enhance the view, and the advantage used here of having the hill falling toward the house. If you go back to the before photos in the construction details above, this advantage is not necessarily obvious to the amateur. [H2] Fountains and Small Water Features Fountains and small water features can be the right choice for the smaller property or the person who wants the benefits of water in the garden without the maintenance. The also is a cost benefit for a smaller water feature. Aquascape Fountain with Aquabasin – Wynnewood, Montgomery County, PA 19096 Shown here is a Aquascape fountain with some of the materials involved. All that was used here was an Aquabasin, a pump, and an urn that was already prepared as a fountain. Before: Before: Small Aquabasin holds the water. It has a opening on the top for access and pump installation. Aquabasin is buried and covered with river rock. [IMG: water fountain vase in backyard] After: Finished fountain with low voltage LED lights, so fountain can be seen and enjoyed at night. Fountain can be turned off when you are not at home. A short video showing the finished fountain and the sound of the water from the fountain. Low voltage LED lights are also installed so the fountain can be enjoyed at night. Large Manufactured Concrete Fountain – Merion, Montgomery County, PA 19066 This fountain and landscaping was set off with a bed of Peas Gravel bordered with paving brick. Conduit for electricity was buried under the pea gravel bed so an electrician could put in a GFCI outlet. The area was planted before the water feature was selected. The owners picked out and purchased the water feature and we installed it after the electrician installed the proper outlet. This was one part of a larger renovation project. Click here to see the patio with landscaping. Small Back Yard Pond, Stream & Waterfall – Lansdowne, Delaware County, PA 19050 This backyard pond has the water pumped up into a small stream created on the upper level and originates behind a tree to hide the source. The stream reenters the pond with a small waterfall. the pond also has a small fountain and the pump can be regulated to send more water to the stream or the fountain. This small pond was constructed with a pre-formed PVC pond liner, with an EPDM liner used for the upper stream. It was constructed before we started using the Aquascape system. Grasses, irises, hosta, and other plants commonly seen near water were used to landscape around the pond. Before: After: After From Side [H2] Waterless Features This idea borrowed from Japan uses rounded river rocks to simulate water. Your Diagnosis
Before revealing the machine’s verdict, predict the BS score for each signal. Higher = more BS (more fluff, less verifiable substance). Drag each slider, then submit to compare your judgment against the engine.
Stuck? Reveal the heuristic lens — how the deterministic page-auditor reads each signal (no AI, pure pattern rules)
These are the structural rules a local, deterministic auditor applies — the same lens you can use to judge each signal. They describe what to look for, not this company’s result.
Classify each sentence as substantive or hollow. Grounding markers — numbers, currencies, dates, technical units, named entities — outweigh marketing adjectives. When fluff sits right next to hard evidence, the fluff is forgiven.
Pull the main entities out of the H1, then check whether they actually recur through the body. A page that announces one thing and then talks about another drifts. Headings with no real sentences underneath read as pseudo-substance.
Count trust words (review, testimonial, rating, verified) against real outbound proof links (Google, Trustpilot, Clutch, G2, Yelp). Lots of trust language with zero verification links is trust theatre. Unlinked logo galleries count against it.
Look at how much sentence length varies. Natural writing varies its rhythm; templated or mass-produced copy is statistically uniform. Very low variation reads as commodity content — unless unique named entities break the pattern.
Inspect the JSON-LD. Is there an Organization or Person schema, and does it carry sameAs links to real external profiles (LinkedIn, socials)? Missing schema or no identity declaration signals an anonymous entity.
Want to apply this lens yourself? The free BS Indicator Chrome extension runs these heuristic checks live on any page. Bear in mind it is a single-page, deterministic tool — it relies only on pattern rules for the page in front of it and does not perform the cross-page semantic correlation this audit uses, so its readout is a starting lens, not the full verdict.
Based on 310 businesses audited.
Construction, Contractors & Building Services BS: Robert J. Kleinberg Landscape Design (kleinberg.com)
This is a rare example of a ‘Substance-First’ contractor site where the owner has clearly documented 30+ years of local work. It bypasses modern marketing polish in favor of raw, forensic proof of competency. The site’s only real ‘bullshit’ is its aging technical structure, which fails to use modern schema to verify its very real expertise.
Implement Person schema for Robert Kleinberg and link to University alumni directories or professional license registries via sameAs. Update the temporal references and case study dates to current projects to close the 36-month staleness gap. Consolidation of the ‘Illuminate your Lawn’ H3 into a more descriptive H2 would improve heading hierarchy. Add verified 3rd-party review widgets (Google or Yelp) to replace the unlinked review counts.
The site is an exact match for the Construction and Landscaping Contractors category. It provides granular details on hardscaping, residential landscape design, and low-voltage LED lighting installation consistent with professional contracting services.
“The score of 16 reflects a highly credible site. Points were primarily lost in Identity and Authority (6) due to technical schema omissions and in Information Density (7) for minor content repetition and aging evidence.”
