**Comparison is versus regular Esso Synergy Diesel. Esso Ethos+™ 25% Renewable Diesel contains a minimum of 25% renewable diesel. Choosing Esso Ethos+™ 25% Renewable Diesel instead of regular Esso Synergy Diesel results in 15% lower greenhouse gas emissions when comparing the emissions over the life cycle of each fuel. Fuels vary both in their total life cycle emissions (i.e., from production to use or “well to wheel”) and in how the emissions are distributed throughout that life cycle. The methodology for calculating life cycle emissions and emissions reduction follows that outlined in the Renewable Transport Fuel Obligations Order 2007 (SI 2007/3072) as amended (“RTFO”). Ethanol is a renewable fuel produced from plant materials.

E10 is the standard (95 octane) regular petrol sold at all forecourts. It contains up to 10% renewable ethanol, a low carbon fuel that can be blended to reduce the amount of fossil fuel in petrol.

The government mandated in September 2021 the switch to E10 petrol to help reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions associated with petrol vehicles. E10 fuel is already widely used around the world.

E5 petrol contains up to 5% ethanol by volume and E10 contains up to 10% by volume. All Esso's Synergy fuels contain additives to help clean, protect and enhance your car's engine, however Esso's Synergy Supreme+ 99 E5 fuel contains a double dose of additive. Esso Synergy Supreme+ 99 contains up to 5% ethanol.

All petrol cars manufactured after 2011 can use E10. If you are unsure you can check using the government E10 compatibility checker , which covers cars, motorbikes and mopeds. If your specific vehicle is not listed, consult your manual, or contact your vehicle manufacturer. If in doubt, the government’s recommendation is to continue using E5 petrol (Esso Synergy Supreme+ 99).

Check the government's E10 compatibility checker to be sure, but it is expected that a number of older cars, classic cars and some mopeds are incompatible with E10 petrol. If in doubt use the E5 grade, Esso Synergy Supreme+ 99 which is available at most sites.

All fuels are clearly labelled at the pump and on the nozzle you'll see E5 or E10 clearly shown.

If your vehicle is compatible with E10 petrol it is perfectly safe to use E5 or E10 fuel, and to use a different fuel subsequently, e.g. if you use E5 on one fill and then E10 on the next.

Using a single tank of E10 petrol in a vehicle that is not compatible should not be a major problem. Just make sure you fill up with E5 petrol next time. Some other petrol-powered equipment may not be compatible with E10 petrol including boats, petrol-powered garden equipment or machinery, such as lawnmowers and chainsaws. Owners and operators should check their manual or ask the manufacturer or dealer before using E10. If in doubt, the government’s recommendation is to continue using E5 petrol (Esso Synergy Supreme+ 99).

From September 2023 our Synergy Supreme * 99 transitioned to contain up to a maximum of
5% ethanol at all Esso pumps irrespective of which part of the country they are located. The
labelling at our pumps will remain as E5 for Synergy Supreme * 99 unleaded.

The octane rating of petrol is a measure of its resistance to knock, with higher octanes more resistant to knock. Petrol engines work by compressing air and fuel, then igniting the mixture with a spark. Certain engine conditions can cause all or part of the mixture to ignite on its own without the spark, creating what’s called “knock” in your engine. Fuels can be blended to meet different octane ratings at the refinery or fuel terminal.
The majority of today’s petrol vehicles are designed to run on regular octane fuel (95). However, using higher octane fuel than the minimum required can benefit fuel economy, power and acceleration even in vehicles calling for regular fuel. Engine design features like higher compression ratios and forced air induction (e.g. turbochargers or superchargers) can make engines more responsive to octane. The benefits achievable with higher octane depend not only on hardware design but also on the car’s calibration and the user’s driving style.

Our Synergy regular petrol has 95 octane, while our Synergy Supreme+ 99 is a 99 octane petrol.

Our Supreme+99 formulation actually now contains more than 2x the detergent molecules of our regular unleaded grade.  The cleaning benefits of fuels are not directly correlated with the concentration of cleaning molecules in the fuel.  Testing shows our new Esso Synergy Supreme+ 99 unleaded formulation helps keep your engine 3x cleaner than Esso Synergy Unleaded 95 and Esso Synergy ™ technology now also features three distinct detergent ingredients.  Esso Supreme+ 99 protects your engine against deposits, corrosion and wear.*

Esso Ethos+™ 25% renewable diesel is the new name for Esso Supreme 25% Renewable Diesel. Esso Ethos+™ 25% Renewable Diesel is a high quality diesel fuel made with a minimum of 25% premium renewable content - hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO). The HVO we use is made from used cooking oil that is refined into a high quality fuel component and blended with conventional diesel and our proprietary Esso Synergy additive. It is intended for use in the same applications as conventional diesel. Esso Ethos+™ 25% Renewable Diesel has 15% lower life cycle greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions than our regular diesel (1).

Esso plans to play a leading role in the energy transition by providing products to help customers reduce their emissions. Research also shows growing customer demand for lower GHG emission fuels, and so we are choosing to trial an alternative premium diesel containing Synergy additive. This alternative diesel offers the same great protection as our regular diesel, but also provides potentially lower life cycle greenhouse gas emissions. By trialling Esso Ethos+™ 25% Renewable Diesel we are offering customers an additional choice for their fuelling options that requires no change to their vehicle – it’s an immediate ‘drop-in’ solution.

Esso Ethos+™ 25% Renewable Diesel is a drop-in replacement for conventional diesel that meets EN590 specification requirements and is suitable for all diesel engines. Esso Ethos+™ 25% Renewable Diesel does not contain fatty acid methyl ester (FAME).

Renewable fuels are produced from a renewable energy source. Examples are fuels made from biomass such as wood or crop waste, from oil extracted from plants, or from previously used materials (such as used cooking oil, or animal fats). In the case of renewable diesel, those renewable energy sources are carefully refined to become a high quality fuel component.

Esso Ethos™ Renewable Diesel is our branded renewable diesel product. Renewable Diesel is a recognized term for what is often referred to HVO or HVO100 (shorthand for hydrotreated vegetable oil). “Ethos” reflects our belief that our renewable diesel product solution is an important forward-looking addition to our diesel portfolio, combining the quality and performance of Esso’s diesel heritage with the added potential for lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions reduction.The latest addition to our diesel family is formulated with a minimum of 25% Esso Ethos™ Renewable Diesel. The renewable content helps reduce the life cycle GHG emissions by 15% when compared to our regular diesel (1). The “+” in Esso Ethos+™ 25% Renewable Diesel refers to the formulation of this product with our Esso Synergy additive technology. Esso Ethos+™ offers the same great protection and cleaning power as our regular diesel to protect your engine.

We use the methodology outlined in the amended Renewable Transport Fuel Obligations Order 2007 (SI 2007/3072) as amended (“RTFO”), which includes contributions from N2O and CH4, expressed in CO2 equivalents (CO2e). The life cycle GHG saving from biofuels and bio liquids (e.g. HVO) is calculated by comparing the carbon intensity of the HVO fuel with a fossil fuel comparator, using RTFO default values for the renewable and fossil fuel comparators. In this case, the expected life cycle GHG emission saving of 15.2% for Esso Ethos+™ 25% Renewable Diesel containing 25% HVO was calculated against the equivalent figure for regular diesel containing up to 7% fatty acid methyl ester (FAME).

Life cycle greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions calculations consider all emissions associated with the fuel, including the extraction or sourcing of the raw materials, its production, distribution and use. Lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions are also often referred to as the carbon intensity (CI) of fuel. Such a calculation provides a useful way of comparing the GHG emission benefits of different products, helping customers better understand the choices they are making based on the full impact of that product.
In the case of biofuels, life cycle GHG emissions will also include the emissions associated with cultivating, and harvesting the feedstocks used to make them. GHG emissions include carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), and nitrous oxide (NOx).
Renewable fuels have lower life cycle GHG emissions than their conventional counterparts because the carbon in those fuels comes from a renewable energy source (for example biomass, oil extracted from plants, or used cooking oil). In those cases, the carbon from those sources has been drawn from the atmosphere to feed the plant’s growth, and when the fuel is burned, that carbon is returned to the atmosphere without a net increase in atmospheric carbon. The important thing to remember is that it’s across the overall life cycle that the environmental impacts of biofuels are compared to conventional fuels, not at the vehicle exhaust emissions at the end of the chain.

Esso Ethos+™ 25% Renewable Diesel has 15% lower life cycle greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions than our regular diesel (1). Calculations indicate that every 50 litres of Esso Ethos+™ 25% Renewable Diesel used would, on average emit 133.7 kg of GHG emissions (expressed in CO2 equivalents, or CO2e) over the total lifecycle of that product. This compares with 50 litres of Esso Synergy regular diesel (B7), which would emit 159.1 kg CO2e over its total lifecycle.

Esso Ethos+™ 25% Renewable Diesel is a high quality diesel fuel, which includes a premium renewable ingredient to help deliver 15% lower life cycle greenhouse gas emissions (1) when compared to our regular diesel. It is formulated with care to ensure that it delivers the same great protection and cleaning power for your engine. It is a drop-in fuel, meaning it is suitable for use in all diesel engines marked as compatible with B7 fuel – simply drive your diesel vehicle to one of the 20 service stations taking part in the trial and fill-up with Esso Ethos+™ 25% Renewable Diesel.

Esso Ethos+™ 25% Renewable Diesel meets BS EN590 specifications, the same as both regular and premium conventional diesels. It is called a ‘drop-in’ fuel as it is suitable for all diesel engines, and can be used interchangeably with regular or premium diesel.

Esso Ethos+™ 25% Renewable Diesel meets the BS EN590 specifications and works in all diesel engines marked as compatible with B7 fuel. It can be used interchangeably with other diesel fuels, and does not require any engine modification. It will not impact the warranty of a vehicle engine marked as compatible with B7 fuel.

Pure HVO contains approximately 4-5% less energy per litre than conventional diesel, though this impact is diluted for blends of HVO. Esso Ethos+™ 25% Renewable Diesel contains a minimum of 25% HVO, blended with conventional diesel and our proprietary Esso Synergy additive. It meets all BS EN590 fuel specifications. We therefore expect minimal impact to fuel economy.

B7 labelling means that Esso Ethos+™ 25% Renewable Diesel can be used in engines marked as compatible with B7 fuel.

Esso Ethos+™ 25% Renewable Diesel contains our proprietary Synergy additive, designed to help clean vital parts of your engine, including your car’s fuel injectors. A cleaner engine means better performance.

Yes, this product contains our Esso Synergy additive. The Esso Synergy additive in Esso Ethos+™ 25% Renewable Diesel provides the same great protection and cleaning power as the additive in our regular diesel to protect your engine.

Hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) is a renewable fuel that can be made from a variety of feedstocks including vegetable and animal oils and fats, or residue feedstocks (such as used cooking oil). It is carefully refined to become a high quality fuel component regardless of the original feedstock.

Esso Ethos+™ 25% Renewable Diesel does not contain palm oil. To supply the HVO used in Esso Ethos+™ 25% Renewable Diesel, we purchase independently verified, RTFO compliant, waste and residue feedstock, such as waste or used cooking oil (UCO).

In addition to Esso’s own terms and conditions of use of Nectar card and issuance or spending of Nectar points at participating Esso branded service stations, general Nectar terms and conditions (and the Nectar privacy policy) apply to the use of Nectar card and collection or redemption of Nectar points and can be found at: https://www.nectar.com/about/privacy-and-legal/terms-of-use.
Esso may collect personal data in relation to questions submitted to its Customer Care department, to which the following privacy terms apply: website privacy policy or in relation to Nectar account information uploaded into the 'Esso App', in relation to which the following privacy terms apply: Esso App privacy policy.
Esso reserves the right to cancel, terminate, suspend or change the ability to collect and or redeem Nectar points at Esso branded service stations without notice (including, but not limited to suspension arising out of non-availability of the App or technical failure generally or at a particular Esso branded service station). Esso shall not be responsible for any losses suffered or incurred as a direct or indirect result of the act of cancellation, termination, suspension or change in the availability of the Nectar scheme at Esso branded service stations. Nothing in these terms shall limit Esso’s liability for death, personal injury or fraud.
The terms and conditions for use of Nectar card and issuance or spending of Nectar points at participating Esso branded service stations may be amended, varied and/or supplemented by Esso Petroleum Company, Limited (“Esso”) at any time in its absolute discretion and without prior notice.

Terms & Conditions
Definitions:
Scheme means the chance for Eligible Participants to earn Nectar points by referring someone who is not previously enrolled in the App.
Scheme Period means: ongoing from Esso App launch. The period to win the Nectar points is 30 days after receiving the invitation link.
Eligible Participant means a Participant who, complies with and is entitled to take part in the Scheme in accordance with the terms of clause 3.
Participant means a person who takes part in the Scheme as a referrer.
Promoter means Esso Petroleum Company, Limited, Fawley Administration Building, Fawley Refinery, Marsh Lane, Fawley, Southampton, SO45 1TX .
Prize means 1,000 Nectar points.
Refer a friend scheme means the loyalty program offer organized by the Promoter and opened to individuals on the Esso App Database.
Esso App Database means the marketing database controlled by the Promoter which members of the public can sign-up to by downloading the Esso App from App Store or Google Store.
How to enter
2.1 To refer a friend, the referrer should be an existing Nectar member and should already have linked their Nectar card to the Esso App.
2.2 In the Esso App, the referrer would go to More-menu, then select and click the “refer a friend” option. On the “refer a friend” screen, referrer will be able to type the referee email contact to send the invitation. Only App users with Nectar card added will see the “refer a friend” screen.
2.3 The referee will receive an email with an invitation link, which will expire after 30 days. The referral code is embedded in the invitation URL. If the App is not yet installed, referee will download the App by clicking on the link to be redirected to the Apple or Google store. If the App is already installed, the referee will click the URL from the email. This will allow the referral code from the original URL to be processed by the App. The referee will enroll and login successfully into the Esso App. The validity period of the activation link is set to 30 days.
2.4 The referrer (existing Nectar member) will only be awarded 1,000 Nectar points once the referee has enrolled and logged into the Esso App within the invite link validity period regardless of the referee being a Nectar member or not.
2.5 After successful enrolment of the referee, the referrer will receive an email informing them that 1,000 Nectar points will be credited to their Nectar account. Only one enrolment per referee allowed. Second or subsequent referrals with the same e-mail address and/or name will be void.
2.6 The Scheme is free to enter and no purchase is necessary.
2.7 The Promoter will not accept:

responsibility for Referrals that are submitted incorrectly, lost or corrupted, regardless of cause, including, for example, as a result of any equipment failure, technical malfunction, systems, satellite, network, server, computer hardware or software failure of any kind; or
proof of submission online as proof of receipt of Entry.
2.8 By submitting a Referral, you are agreeing to be bound by these terms and conditions.
Eligibility
3.1 The Scheme is only open to all residents in the UK aged 18 years or over, who have the Nectar card linked to the Esso App, except:
employees of the Promoter or its holding or subsidiary companies;
employees of agents or suppliers of the Promoter or its holding or subsidiary companies, who are professionally connected with the Scheme or its administration; or
members of the immediate families or households of (a) and (b) above.
3.2 For the referrer to be eligible to win a Prize, the referee would need to enroll and log in with the same email address to which the email invitation was sent.
3.3 By entering the Scheme, you confirm that you are eligible to do so and eligible to claim a Prize. The Promoter may require you to provide proof that you are eligible to enter.
3.4 The Promoter reserves all rights to disqualify you if your conduct is contrary to the spirit or intention of the Scheme.
The prize
4.1 There are 1,000 Nectar points for the referrer once the referee has enrolled and logged in to the Esso App.
4.2 Eligible Participants are limited to winning a maximum of five prizes per month per referrer.
4.3 Points earned will be credited to the referrers Nectar account by Nectar 360 Limited, and added in their statement.
4.4 The Prize is non-exchangeable, non-transferable and no cash alternative is offered.
Winners
5.1 The winners will receive their prize once the referee has enrolled and logged in to the Esso App, within the 30 days expiration limit. (from the date receiving the email)
5.2 The referee should not be an existing Esso App user but could be a Nectar user. If the referee is an existing Esso App user, no points will be awarded to the referrer even if the referee downloads, enrolls and logs in to the App.
4.3 The Prize will be awarded within 30 days from the date of the referee logging in to the Esso App and in accordance with 5.1 and 5.2 above.
5.4 No responsibility will be taken by the Promoter if a referrer is not able to claim a Prize for any reason and howsoever arising.

Our fuel engineers spend hours and hours testing different ingredients and formulas, because they know the smallest change can make a difference. Like the molecules in our regular Synergy diesel that have been specially designed to help clean vital parts of your engine (like your car’s fuel injectors) and help look after your engine. You may have heard that nasty engine deposits can build up in your engine over time which prevent your car from performing at its best and can reduce your fuel economy. In fact, when we tested Synergy diesel on everyday cars it helped improve fuel economy by an average of 1.8%.***

[H2] What’s in our Synergy Supreme+ premium diesel?
Our Synergy Supreme+ Diesel has double the detergent additive than our regular diesel. This means it gives your engine a deeper clean, to better remove nasty deposits and improve the amount of power and responsiveness you get. There are other benefits to Supreme+, including less wear and tear, a clean fuel injector, better protection from corrosion, and less chance of clogging. It also helps the fuel burn more efficiently so you get better fuel economy†.

Ethanol is a renewable fuel produced from plant materials.

E10 is the standard (95 octane) regular petrol sold at all forecourts. It contains up to 10% renewable ethanol, a low carbon fuel that can be blended to reduce the amount of fossil fuel in petrol.

The government mandated in September 2021 the switch to E10 petrol to help reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions associated with petrol vehicles. E10 fuel is already widely used around the world.

E5 petrol contains up to 5% ethanol by volume and E10 contains up to 10% by volume. All Esso's Synergy fuels contain additives to help clean, protect and enhance your car's engine, however Esso's Synergy Supreme+ 99 E5 fuel contains a double dose of additive. Esso Synergy Supreme+ 99 contains up to 5% ethanol.

All petrol cars manufactured after 2011 can use E10. If you are unsure you can check using the government E10 compatibility checker, which covers cars, motorbikes and mopeds. If your specific vehicle is not listed, consult your manual, or contact your vehicle manufacturer. If in doubt, the government’s recommendation is to continue using E5 petrol (Esso Synergy Supreme+ 99).

Check the government's E10 compatibility checker to be sure, but it is expected that a number of older cars, classic cars and some mopeds are incompatible with E10 petrol. If in doubt use the E5 grade, Esso Synergy Supreme+ 99 which is available at most sites.

The octane rating of petrol is a measure of its resistance to knock, with higher octanes more resistant to knock. Petrol engines work by compressing air and fuel, then igniting the mixture with a spark. Certain engine conditions can cause all or part of the mixture to ignite on its own without the spark, creating what’s called “knock” in your engine. Fuels can be blended to meet different octane ratings at the refinery or fuel terminal.
The majority of today’s petrol vehicles are designed to run on regular octane fuel (95). However, using higher octane fuel than the minimum required can benefit fuel economy, power and acceleration even in vehicles calling for regular fuel. Engine design features like higher compression ratios and forced air induction (e.g. turbochargers or superchargers) can make engines more responsive to octane. The benefits achievable with higher octane depend not only on hardware design but also on the car’s calibration and the user’s driving style.

Our Synergy regular petrol has 95 octane, while our Synergy Supreme+ 99 is a 99 octane petrol.

Our Supreme+99 formulation actually now contains more than 2x the detergent molecules of our regular unleaded grade.  The cleaning benefits of fuels are not directly correlated with the concentration of cleaning molecules in the fuel.  Testing shows our new Esso Synergy Supreme+ 99 unleaded formulation helps keep your engine 3x cleaner than Esso Synergy Unleaded 95 and Esso Synergy ™ technology now also features three distinct detergent ingredients. The terms and conditions for use of Nectar card and issuance or spending of Nectar points at participating Esso branded service stations may be amended, varied and/or supplemented by Esso Petroleum Company, Limited (“Esso”) at any time in its absolute discretion and without prior notice.

You must present your Nectar card or Nectar key tag at the time of your purchase at participating Esso branded service stations to qualify for any Nectar points or have previously added your Nectar card details to your Esso App account. Nectar points cannot be awarded retrospectively.
Nectar collectors can earn 1 point per litre of Esso Synergy™ fuel or 2 points per pound spent on carwash, lubricants or shop products at participating Esso branded service stations.
Points collected at participating Esso branded service stations will be credited to your Nectar account by Nectar 360 Limited and included in your statement for redemption via existing Nectar redemption options.
Transactions using Key Fuels or UK Fuels bunker card(s) are not eligible for Nectar points.
Nectar points issued on all transactions are capped at 100 points for unleaded and 250 points for diesel purchases and £200 for spend in shop.
Restrictions may be placed on the issuance of Nectar points at participating Esso branded service stations. Esso may not issue Nectar points on transactions it considers to be above reasonable use or where it suspects fraudulent activity without any notice. Esso’s decision on these circumstances is final.

This promotion is open to all Nectar card holders’ resident in the United Kingdom
who make a Qualifying Purchase between 00.01 on 1st May 2025 and 23:59 on
31st August 2025.
Customers will earn 2x Nectar points for every litre of a Qualifying Purchase (as
defined in 3 below). Customers must scan their Nectar card at the time of payment.
Alternatively, they can pay for their Qualifying Purchase using the Esso App at sites
participating in the Nectar scheme. For Esso App purchases, the Nectar card must be
added to the Esso App account prior to the transaction.
To enter the promotion customers must buy 1L or more of Esso Supreme+ fuel or Esso
Ethos+™ 25% Renewable Diesel purchased at a participating Esso branded service
station that accepts the Nectar card in the UK (excluding Northern Ireland or Tesco
branded Esso sites) (“Qualifying Purchase”).

Customers will collect double Tesco Clubcard points for every litre of Esso Supreme+
fuel or Esso Ethos+™ 25% Renewable Diesel purchased at Esso branded service
stations with a Tesco Express shop between 00.01 on 1st May 2025 and 23:59 on
31st August 2025. Customers will collect Tesco Clubcard points when they tap their
Clubcard at checkout, including when they use PayatPump.
