Gallagher’s Boxty House places Boxty centre stage to showcase the best of Irish produce and renowned Irish hospitality in an ambience reminiscent of an old Irish kitchen.

While the recipes date back to 17th-18th century Ireland, we have reimagined them and confidently recreated these classics in a 21st century setting without forgetting our humble past.

Boxty is a dish that's intertwined with Irish history and culture. It's a dish that was born out of necessity during a time in the 18th century when the Irish diet was heavily reliant on potatoes, with different regions of Ireland having their own take on boxty.

Pádraic Óg works alongside his son Jack here and we’ve had some staff with us for well over ten years. The restaurant feels like home.
[H2] tHE STORY OF BOXTY
​Gallagher's Boxty House serves three types of boxty from counties Leitrim, Cavan, and Fermanagh – all places the Gallagher family can trace our roots back to.
​
Simply put, boxty is made by grating potatoes, mixing them with flour, and frying them in a pan. But over the years and throughout the generations, plenty of variations have been created, including some of our own.
​
From hearty boxty pancakes and boxty bread to our modern take on boxty dumplings and boxty fries, each dish is a look into our past and a further revival of our cuisine.

[H2] The Spud Goes Global
As the old saying goes, "if you build it, they will come". And after years of researching recipes, perfecting techniques, and creating a restaurant worthy of the mighty boxty, word began to spread about our little corner of Temple Bar.
​
We open our doors to wonderful guests every day, but sometimes someone well known steps foot into Gallagher's Boxty House.
​
​We answered the call when "Somebody Feed Phil" came to Ireland to shoot an episode of their Netflix series and Phil was delighted to learn about the history of the dish. Pádraic Óg was a very happy recipient of one of Paul Hollywood's famous handshakes after giving him a masterclass on how to make boxty.

[H2] Gallagher's Brew House
We'd consider ourselves to be big beer lovers. So much of it flows through the taps at Gallagher's Boxty House, and sometimes even into our own glasses if we're lucky, so why not make our own?

Gallagher’s Boxty House brews its very own in-house beer. We couldn't quite decide which beer was our favourite, so we've brewed a whole host of ones from creamy stouts to light lagers and powerful IPAs to seasonal brews. They pair perfectly with our menu.

And for when your meal is finished, we can't think of a better way to round off your visit with one of our Irish cocktails. Our cocktail menu has the reliable classics and ones you won't find anywhere else, but one thing remains constant across the board: top notch Irish ingredients.

We take a lot of pride in making our dishes from scratch, which is only possible with support from our brilliant local suppliers and producers like Dublin Hills Farm, JJ Young & Sons, Lloyd and Sons Butchers, Rings Free Range Farm and many, many more.

As well as this, we're delighted to support Learn Local to support the future of food education. Eilish Davenport helps children from inner city communities learn vital cooking skills and how to eat healthily!
