As a business, there are so many options out there, but working with Stumptown was one of the best choices we made, and the team at Stumptown made everything so easy for us."
H4 "We opened serving three roasters and, within a couple months, eliminated the other two mainly because Stumptown outshined in quality every time. The general customer service and feel I was getting from Stumptown was amazing. I had been in the industry for a long time and became familiar with Stumptown’s products at trade shows. I reached out because I thought, out of all the coffee I had at any show, Stumptown was always the most on point, and I wanted to develop this relationship. There are a lot of ties between Portland and Juneau—people travel and work back and forth, and I really liked the vibe. Our business relationship has been amazing. You know we’re remote, but you’ve always worked with us. I’m 1800 miles away from Portland, and we deal with our own logistics getting things here, but Stumptown’s always willing to step up and get me things in a pinch and I appreciate that. [H3] How to Choose the Right Coffee
Finding your perfect coffee doesn’t have to be complicated—but a little know-how goes a long way. Whether you're chasing fruity and bright or bold and smoky, here are a couple key things to think about when you're dialing in your next bag.
[H4] Single Origin vs. Blend: What’s the Difference?
Single Origin coffees come from one specific farm or region, and they’re all about unique flavors and a sense of place. Like Colombia El Jordan, which delivers syrupy cherry, dark chocolate, and baking spice from the lush highlands. Or Indonesia Bies Penantan, a medium roast with dark chocolate, pineapple, and clove notes from the rich volcanic soils of Sumatra.
Blends are crafted by combining beans from multiple origins to create balance, consistency, and depth. Hundred Mile is a smooth, easygoing blend with a chocolatey backbone and just enough fruit to keep things interesting.
Not sure where to start? If you’re curious about terroir and want to taste something distinct, try a single origin. Want a crowd-pleaser that brews up solid every time?
Go with a blend.
[H4] Light, Medium, or Dark: Know Your Roast
Light Roast – Bright, juicy, and complex. A coffee like Homestead keeps it light on the roast. Expect a balance of chocolate, candied fruit, and nougat sweetness.
Medium Roast – Balanced and approachable. Colombia El Jordan hits that sweet spot—full-bodied with notes of caramel, red fruit, and subtle spice.
Dark Roast – Big, bold, and roasty. French Roast is our classic dark roast that doesn’t mess around. Smoky, bittersweet, and built for those who appreciate a classic dark brew with big flavor.
There’s no wrong way to choose—just follow your flavor and your mood. However you brew, we've got the coffee to match.

Stumptown Coffee FAQ
[H3] What is Stumptown Coffee Roasters?
Stumptown is a specialty coffee roaster founded in Portland, Oregon. We source our beans through direct trade relationships with producers across four continents, many of whom we've worked with for over a decade. We pioneered the Direct Trade sourcing model in 2003, paying premium prices tied directly to quality, and in 2024 over 90 percent of our purchases came through partnerships of three or more consecutive years. Every coffee we roast is built on those relationships. Learn more about our story.
[H3] Does Stumptown sell ground coffee?
We do. In fact, some of our coffees are available in both whole bean and ground options. Just select your preferred grind when adding to cart.
[H3] Does Stumptown offer coffee subscriptions?
Yes. With a Stumptown coffee subscription, you get coffee roasted to order and shipped on your schedule. You can adjust your selections, frequency, or cancel anytime.
[H3] How should I store my coffee to keep it fresh?
Keep your coffee in an airtight container at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Avoid storing it in the fridge or freezer, as temperature changes can introduce condensation and affect flavor. For the best taste, try to use your coffee within two to three weeks of the roast date.

[H4] Forget About It With a Subscription
If you find your perfect roast, subscribe and let us do all the work. With a Stumptown coffee subscription you get:
Coffee roasted to order and shipped on your schedule
Flexible options to adjust anytime
A steady supply of your go-to brew
Explore the lineup and find your flavor.

Your Diagnosis

Before revealing the machine’s verdict, predict the BS score for each signal. Higher = more BS (more fluff, less verifiable substance). Drag each slider, then submit to compare your judgment against the engine.

Information Density 0 / 30
Read the Narrative & headings: do hard facts (prices, dates, numbers) outweigh fluff power-words?
Semantic Coherence 0 / 20
Compare the homepage promise against the sub-page reality. Do they hold the same line?
Trust & Proof 0 / 20
Weigh review mentions against actual external proof links. Claims without verification = theatre.
Commodity Fingerprint 0 / 15
Check headings & narrative against the industry clichés in the setup above.
Identity & Authority 0 / 15
Inspect the schema: is there real Organization/Person identity with sameAs links, or gaps?
Your predicted BS score 0 / 100
💡 Stuck? Reveal the heuristic lens — how the deterministic page-auditor reads each signal (no AI, pure pattern rules)

These are the structural rules a local, deterministic auditor applies — the same lens you can use to judge each signal. They describe what to look for, not this company’s result.

Information Density

Classify each sentence as substantive or hollow. Grounding markers — numbers, currencies, dates, technical units, named entities — outweigh marketing adjectives. When fluff sits right next to hard evidence, the fluff is forgiven.

Semantic Alignment

Pull the main entities out of the H1, then check whether they actually recur through the body. A page that announces one thing and then talks about another drifts. Headings with no real sentences underneath read as pseudo-substance.

Trust & Proof

Count trust words (review, testimonial, rating, verified) against real outbound proof links (Google, Trustpilot, Clutch, G2, Yelp). Lots of trust language with zero verification links is trust theatre. Unlinked logo galleries count against it.

Commodity Fingerprint

Look at how much sentence length varies. Natural writing varies its rhythm; templated or mass-produced copy is statistically uniform. Very low variation reads as commodity content — unless unique named entities break the pattern.

Identity & Authority

Inspect the JSON-LD. Is there an Organization or Person schema, and does it carry sameAs links to real external profiles (LinkedIn, socials)? Missing schema or no identity declaration signals an anonymous entity.

Want to apply this lens yourself? The free BS Indicator Chrome extension runs these heuristic checks live on any page. Bear in mind it is a single-page, deterministic tool — it relies only on pattern rules for the page in front of it and does not perform the cross-page semantic correlation this audit uses, so its readout is a starting lens, not the full verdict.

14 BS / 100

Stumptown Coffee Roasters is a rare example of a ‘Signal-Rich’ brand where the marketing language is merely a wrapper for significant operational substance. By providing specific sourcing percentages and naming individual station operators, the site moves beyond commodity coffee status into legitimate authority. The BS score is low because the site treats its business model as its primary proof.

To further reduce the BS score, link the ‘B Corp Certified’ text directly to the official B Lab impact report. Update the 2024 sourcing statistics to reflect 2025/2026 data to ensure evidence does not transition from ‘current’ to ‘aging.’ Ensure the ‘Quiz’ page content is rendered in a way that allows search crawlers to index the educational substance behind the interface.

The content perfectly aligns with the Food and Beverage industry, specifically within the specialty coffee roasting and retail sector. Evidence includes granular detail on coffee varietals (Guatemala El Injerto Bourbon), roast levels (3 through 7), and distribution models (Wholesale, Subscription, Grocery).

“The score of 14 is driven primarily by the high information density and technical authority established in the schema and wholesale pages. Minor penalties were applied in Information Density for seasonal 'hook' headings and in Commodity Fingerprint for a few standard industry cliches. Trust and Proof remains low-BS due to the use of named business entities rather than anonymous reviews.”
