Alongside our world-class comprehensive clinical services, we also offer bespoke frame fitting and we stock one of the largest ranges of designer glasses in the capital, with high-end brands such as Lindberg, Oliver Peoples, Tom Davies and Orgreen.

EYE EXAM
You only have one set of eyes and so taking care of them is crucial. At McGraths we strive to offer the most comprehensive eye examination in Edinburgh, perhaps even Scotland.An eye test isn’t just about checking your prescription; it also helps us identify the earliest signs of common eye conditions such as glaucoma, macular degeneration and cataracts, many of which can lead to serious deterioration of your vision or even blindness unless treated early. We offer the option to upgrade our eye test to include OCT scans and Optomap imaging to give you unprecedented peace of mind when it comes to your visual health.National guidelines recommend adults get their eyes checked by an optometrist every two years, whilst anyone over 60 and under 16 should visit their optician annually.

CONTACT LENSES
Contact lenses are a convenient way of enhancing your vision without wearing glasses. McGraths can prescribe easy-to-use, affordable contact lenses to almost everybody that wears glasses. If you are thinking of switching to contact lenses, our friendly specialists will be here for you at every step of your journey, with fantastic before and aftercare advice for continuous comfortable wear, we even offer a trial appointment so you can experience the feel of the lenses, and get to grips with the process putting them in and taking them out before you decide whether you’d like to continue wearing them.

OPTOMAP WIDE ANGLE RETINAL IMAGING
Optomap wide angle retinal imaging is an ultra wide-field retinal image that captures more than 80% of your retina in one image which means we can detect early signs of diseases more efficiently and effectively than with traditional methods.It is quick, painless and safe for adults and children.

3D EYE SCAN (OCT)
The OCT Eye Scanner allows our optometrists to detect any signs of eye disease at the earliest possible stage. This 3D scanner allows us to view each individual layer of the retinal tissue, which is impossible for our optometrist to view via the naked eye. Your scan results will bring peace of mind that your eyes have been examined to the best possible level.The scan will capture a digital photograph of your eyes, whilst using light to illustrate the layers deep within the back of your eye. CHILDREN’S EYECARE
Problems such as a squint or lazy eye may be obvious, but children rarely complain about their sight even if they are experiencing visual difficulties. Therefore regular eye examinations are advised for all children under the age of 16 at least once a year.Children should have their first eye examination by the age of four, sooner if any problems are suspected. The earlier a problem is detected, the more effectively it can be treated.It doesn’t matter if your child is too young to talk or read a letter chart, as we use a range of techniques and modern equipment to detect visual problems at any ageMcGraths Opticians provides free NHS eye tests for all children under 16 and those under 19 and in full time education. If a child is found to need spectacles, a contribution is provided by the NHS.If you spot any of the following behaviour, it may indicate that your child is struggling with their eyesight: Sitting too close to the TVBlinking a lot and rubbing their eyes frequentlyLack of enthusiasm for reading or difficulty at schoolComplaining of headachesHolding objects closely to their face

VDU EXAMINATIONS
Computer eye strain is now one of the most significant office-related health complaints. Eyestrain can cause physical fatigue, poor productivity and an increase in errors.If you are a VDU user it is vital that you receive regular eye care. Our comprehensive eye examination incorporates every test pertinent to VDU use. We will ensure that your vision is focused correctly for the screen distance, that your eyes are working in a balanced manner and that your mode of working won’t put excessive strain on your sightRemember, if you use a computer screen for periods of more than an hour every day at work, your employer is required by law to pay for your eye examination.

DRY EYE & RED EYE ASSESSMENTS
If your eyes feel dry, scratchy and irritated it may be because your eyes produce too little tear fluid, or the quality of your tears has changed, causing them to evaporate from their surfaces too rapidly.Dry Eye is a condition that affects millions of people. Every time you blink, tears form a coating that protects and nourishes the eyes’ surface. If tear pro-duction becomes reduced or tears fail to coat the surface of the eye for long enough, the uncomfortable symptoms of Dry Eye will be the result.Our optometrists are fully trained in the management of Dry Eyes. You can be sure our dedicated clinic will find a tailor-made solution to your problem. This may be the use of eye drops, eye gels and eye bags at home.
