[H3] Search for hospitals, consultants & treatments Home > Patient information > Safety overview [H1] Quality and patient safety We seek to provide the highest quality care for people, delivering on our purpose. [H2] Quality and patient safety is at the heart of everything we do, and we receive excellent feedback from our patients and regulators. Our governance, culture and systems for overseeing the practice of consultants has been transformed in recent years, while 98% of our inspected locations are rated ‘Good’ or ‘Outstanding’, or the equivalent by health inspectors in England, Scotland and Wales. We have Freedom to Speak Up Guardians at clinical and non-clinical sites and available for remote colleagues, and have led the sector in this important safeguarding measure. [H2] Keeping you safe At Spire Healthcare, ensuring patients are safe is at the heart of what we do. We are proud of the high quality personalised care that we provide for the more than 1.3 million people we see across the group each year. [H2] Some of the key initiatives we have taken to strengthen patient safety and governance include: We were the first provider in the independent sector to introduce Freedom to Speak Up Guardians in every hospital, enabling colleagues to raise any concerns confidentially. Colleagues are regularly encouraged to share experiences and managers look at findings weekly New processes to examine and learn from incidents – PSIRF – were introduced in 2023/24, encouraging new conversations between colleagues and faster learning (see more below) Spending over £80 million each year on improvements, for example, purchasing new MRI and CT scanners, and the latest medical equipment and upgrading our operating theatres, wards, rooms and other parts of our hospitals Our board and senior leaders are closely engaged in governance, with two clinicians, Professor Cliff Shearman and Jenny Kay, on our board, and two further clinicians, Dr Cathy Cale and Professor Lisa Grant on our executive team 20 separate governance meetings, each year at board and executive level, dedicated to overseeing quality Key performance indicators are scrutinised by clinical members of the board, examining themes and trends A Quality Improvement (QI) approach to improving safety, improving outcomes for patients, reducing risk and sharing learning. PSIRF, Freedom to Speak Up Guardians and QI approaches work together to create an open, learning environment, which is safer. Sometimes in healthcare, things do go wrong. Download the 2025 - 2027 strategy [H2] Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF) The Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF) is a new approach to responding to patient safety incidents developed by NHS England. It is designed to help organisations learn from incidents and improve patient safety. As part of implementing PSIRF, organisations must first develop a PSIRF plan which will highlight the key areas of patient safety concerns. Spire Healthcare is committed to learning from patient safety incidents and improving our care. PSIRF is helping us to achieve this goal across the whole organisation. We were obliged to introduce it in England for our NHS patients but have chosen to introduce it in all our hospitals in the UK, and for every patient, as it improves safety. [H2] Hospital transfers for specialist care Spire is dedicated to looking after you for your care and treatment and will therefore carefully assess you to ensure that we can provide the level of care that you need. In the unlikely event that your health needs change and are more than anticipated, we may arrange to transfer your care to another hospital. As part of this, we are committed to implementing the Medical Practitioners Assurance Framework (MPAF), which aims to help strengthen systems governing the conduct of medical practitioners in the independent healthcare sector. MPAF was published by the Independent Healthcare Providers Network (IHPN), the representative body for independent healthcare providers in autumn 2019. It was developed under the leadership of Professor Sir Bruce Keogh, former National Medical Director at NHS England, supported by an Expert Advisory Group including representation from Spire and other acute independent providers, as well as the Patients Association, regulators and other independent bodies. MPAF sets out best practice in four areas: Clinical governance structures Monitoring patient safety Appraisals of medical practitioners Raising and responding to concerns IHPN published a refreshed MPAF in September 2022; we conducted a review and provided assurance to the board. We remain fully compliant with the framework. [H3] Search for hospitals, consultants & treatments Home > Consultants > How we work with consultants [H1] How we work with consultants All our Consultants are independent practitioners and have personal responsibility for the care they deliver. Whilst they are not Spire employees, they are required to operate according to Spire policies and procedures when practising at Spire hospitals. Many Consultants are employed by the NHS, and may also work across a number of other independent providers. [H2] Every Consultant is listed on the General Medical Council (GMC) medical register and undergoes a thorough vetting process before being granted “practising privileges” to practice at a Spire hospital. They are subject to regular review by their Spire Hospital Director. Your relationship with each Consultant involved in your treatment (including anaesthetists) exists as a separate legal relationship alongside your relationship with Spire. If you are a private patient, you or your insurer will usually be invoiced separately by each Consultant involved in your treatment, and by the hospital, although in some instances we may be able to act as a fee collecting agent for the Consultants to make the payment process easier. Whilst Consultants are responsible for clinical decision-making and the quality of the care they deliver, Spire is responsible for ensuring that there are systems of monitoring and oversight in place, designed to ensure that Consultants practise in accordance with Spire policy, and in line with their practising privileges. All Consultants are required to maintain adequate minimum levels of medical malpractice indemnity cover, in keeping with GMC guidance, and Spire undertakes checks to ensure that indemnity certificates are in place. You can find out more about the consultants providing your care on our website and on the Private Healthcare Information Network website.

Your Diagnosis
Before revealing the machine’s verdict, predict the BS score for each signal. Higher = more BS (more fluff, less verifiable substance). Drag each slider, then submit to compare your judgment against the engine.
Stuck? Reveal the heuristic lens — how the deterministic page-auditor reads each signal (no AI, pure pattern rules)
These are the structural rules a local, deterministic auditor applies — the same lens you can use to judge each signal. They describe what to look for, not this company’s result.
Classify each sentence as substantive or hollow. Grounding markers — numbers, currencies, dates, technical units, named entities — outweigh marketing adjectives. When fluff sits right next to hard evidence, the fluff is forgiven.
Pull the main entities out of the H1, then check whether they actually recur through the body. A page that announces one thing and then talks about another drifts. Headings with no real sentences underneath read as pseudo-substance.
Count trust words (review, testimonial, rating, verified) against real outbound proof links (Google, Trustpilot, Clutch, G2, Yelp). Lots of trust language with zero verification links is trust theatre. Unlinked logo galleries count against it.
Look at how much sentence length varies. Natural writing varies its rhythm; templated or mass-produced copy is statistically uniform. Very low variation reads as commodity content — unless unique named entities break the pattern.
Inspect the JSON-LD. Is there an Organization or Person schema, and does it carry sameAs links to real external profiles (LinkedIn, socials)? Missing schema or no identity declaration signals an anonymous entity.
Want to apply this lens yourself? The free BS Indicator Chrome extension runs these heuristic checks live on any page. Bear in mind it is a single-page, deterministic tool — it relies only on pattern rules for the page in front of it and does not perform the cross-page semantic correlation this audit uses, so its readout is a starting lens, not the full verdict.
Based on 352 businesses audited.
Healthcare Providers & Medical Clinics BS: Spire Healthcare (www.spirehealthcare.com)
Spire Healthcare maintains a low BS score by prioritizing regulatory transparency and hard facility metrics over surgical cliches. The inclusion of past failures (Paterson) and current governance frameworks (PSIRF) creates a high-integrity signal that is rare in corporate medicine.
Integrate Person schema for all named board clinicians and the CEO to bridge the authority gap. Add direct outbound ‘Proof Paths’ from the 98% CQC claim to the Care Quality Commission’s individual hospital reports. Include GMC registration numbers in the body text of the Consultant Search results to move from ‘Trust Theatre’ to ‘Hard Proof.’ Ensure Organization schema is present on the homepage and not just the enquiry page.
The website perfectly aligns with the Healthcare Providers category, focusing on private hospital services, consultant-led treatments, and insurance integration. The content provides a high level of functional detail expected from a major UK medical group.
“The score was primarily driven by Information Density (power words vs metrics) and Commodity Fingerprint (industry jargon). The site's transparency regarding medical governance and regulatory ratings significantly lowered the Trust and Proof and Semantic Coherence penalties.”
This training module utilizes a snapshot of public data from Spire Healthcare, captured on May 16, 2026, to demonstrate how machine logic evaluates different types of business narratives.
