[H2] What’s the average cost of moving home?
The price of your home move will be calculated based on the volume of the items you are moving, how long it will take the removal team to load and unload your things, and the distance from your old to new home.
The average volume prices charged by a reputable removal company equate to about £1 per cubic foot. For example:
1 Bedroom property – 250-500 Cubic feet – £250 – £530
2 Bedroom property – 500-700 Cubic feet - £500 – £720
3 Bedroom property – 750-1000 Cubic feet – £750 – £1050
4 Bedroom property – 1000-1500 Cubic feet – £1300 – £1700
The next part of the calculation involves how long it will take the team to load and unload your things. If the team need to walk up multiple flights of stairs or they cannot park near your home to load or unload, this will all add extra time to the home move.
The average hourly rate charged by a reputable moving company is £50-£60 per hour, per man, usually with a minimum charge of 2 hours.
A 1 bedroom property can take 2-3 hours to move - £100 – £180 per man
A 2 bedroom property can take 3-5 hours to move – £150 – £300 per man
A 3 to 4 bedroom property can take 7 hours to move – £350 – £420 per man
A 5 bedroom property can take 8-10 hours to move – £400 – £600 per man
The last thing to factor in to the calculation is the mileage. This usually equates to about £1 per mile, but check carefully as some removal firms charge you from their depot, not from your old to new home.
Many people will very sensibly choose to have their household items packed professionally. Not only will your precious items be properly protected but a good packing team will pack efficiently and quickly, saving you stress and money.
On average a 1-2 bedroom home costs about £200 depending on how many items you are taking with you.
On average a 3 bedroom home costs about £400 depending upon what you need packing.
