[H1] Welcome to Elsevier Connect News, information and features for the research, health and technology communities. [IMG: Students sitting around a table at library] [H2] In the spotlight [H3] The future we build could depend on research we don’t read Policy is meant to be shaped by evidence. But what happens when the most relevant research never reaches decision-makers?New research supported by Elsevier datasets suggests that roughly two-thirds of highly policy-relevant science may go uncited — not because it lacks quality, but because it remains invisible. As AI becomes part of how evidence is found and synthesized, trusted sources, transparency and broader visibility are becoming essential to better decisions.Read the full story(opens in new tab/window) [H3] What if the next life-saving drug is buried in a patent diagram? In drug discovery, the evidence researchers need often already exists — scattered across journals, patents, figures and chemical diagrams that conventional search may miss.AI-supported workflows grounded in trusted scientific knowledge are helping researchers connect chemistry, bioactivity and patent evidence faster, with insights traceable back to their sources. From surfacing hidden chemistry in images to exploring millions of drug–disease connections at scale, better access to quality information can help teams move from search to decision with greater confidence.Read the full story(opens in new tab/window) [H2] Latest articles See all Connect articlesConnect [H3] What nurses need from AI now: trusted tools and a stronger voice May 28, 2026 [IMG: Female nurse using digital tablet at hospital room] Connect [H3] Working together to improve access to scholarly content for people with disabilities May 22, 2026 [IMG: Man using visually impaired app] Connect [H3] Discover how Europe is turning research into real-world impact May 20, 2026 [IMG: research impact eu] Connect [H3] Beyond the Campus: How the urban research university is redefining impact May 18, 2026 [IMG: Header-Connect-Reginald-DesRoches] Connect [H3] Preparing future health professionals for AI-enabled practice May 18, 2026 [IMG: doctor and nurse looking at MR images] Connect [H3] Why public trust is now part of research impact May 14, 2026 [IMG: research impact] PreviousNext [H2] Elsevier Connect communities and topics [IMG: Young woman in crop field] [H3] Sustainability [IMG: Manager talking to his colleagues in a meeting in the office] [H3] Open science [IMG: Diverse workers taking a break] [H3] Inclusive research [IMG: Doctor talking to a mother and child] [H3] Healthcare & Medicine [IMG: Woman studying in library with laptop] [H3] Library Connect [IMG: Male editor working in his home office] [H3] Editors' Update [IMG: Female reviewer working on her laptop] [H3] Reviewers' Update [IMG: Male author writing notes in a library] [H3] Authors' Update [H3] Societies’ Update PreviousNext [IMG: A man holding a tablet looking out at a window.] [H3] Research leadership [IMG: Researcher working at home] [H3] Researchers [IMG: Young author working at home on laptop] [H3] Publishing [IMG: Businesswoman viewing graphs on digital tablet in business meeting] [H3] Data & Analytics [IMG: A smiling young man with glasses.] [H3] The Elsevier Experience PreviousNext [H2] Authors' Update Browse all Authors’ Update articlesConnect [H3] Turning challenges into opportunities: helping authors find the right place to publish Dec 18, 2025 [IMG: Hikers using a compass and pointing in the distance] Connect [H3] An innovative way to enhance your research credibility Mar 6, 2025 [IMG: snippet-iStock-981916174-isometric-vector] Connect [H3] Three ways to optimize your publication journey through editorial insights Feb 17, 2025 [IMG: snippet-iStock-1363779378-credit-D3Damon] Connect [H3] Research data publishing made easy: introducing the co-submission process Jan 30, 2025 [IMG: 2 dart arrows in bulls eye on dart board] Connect [H3] “Dear Editor, we enclose our paper for your kind consideration…” Oct 29, 2024 [IMG: credit-stanciuc-iStock-959547298-snippet] Connect [H3] Interested in publishing open access? Your Diagnosis
Before revealing the machine’s verdict, predict the BS score for each signal. Higher = more BS (more fluff, less verifiable substance). Drag each slider, then submit to compare your judgment against the engine.
Stuck? Reveal the heuristic lens — how the deterministic page-auditor reads each signal (no AI, pure pattern rules)
These are the structural rules a local, deterministic auditor applies — the same lens you can use to judge each signal. They describe what to look for, not this company’s result.
Classify each sentence as substantive or hollow. Grounding markers — numbers, currencies, dates, technical units, named entities — outweigh marketing adjectives. When fluff sits right next to hard evidence, the fluff is forgiven.
Pull the main entities out of the H1, then check whether they actually recur through the body. A page that announces one thing and then talks about another drifts. Headings with no real sentences underneath read as pseudo-substance.
Count trust words (review, testimonial, rating, verified) against real outbound proof links (Google, Trustpilot, Clutch, G2, Yelp). Lots of trust language with zero verification links is trust theatre. Unlinked logo galleries count against it.
Look at how much sentence length varies. Natural writing varies its rhythm; templated or mass-produced copy is statistically uniform. Very low variation reads as commodity content — unless unique named entities break the pattern.
Inspect the JSON-LD. Is there an Organization or Person schema, and does it carry sameAs links to real external profiles (LinkedIn, socials)? Missing schema or no identity declaration signals an anonymous entity.
Want to apply this lens yourself? The free BS Indicator Chrome extension runs these heuristic checks live on any page. Bear in mind it is a single-page, deterministic tool — it relies only on pattern rules for the page in front of it and does not perform the cross-page semantic correlation this audit uses, so its readout is a starting lens, not the full verdict.
Based on 830 businesses audited.
Elsevier has 5.7 points less BS than the average for Media, News & Publishing.
Media, News & Publishing BS: Elsevier (elsevier.com)
Elsevier is a high-authority institution that uses a dense layer of ‘advancing progress’ corporate fluff to package its massive data-harvesting and publishing operation. Its low BS score is earned through genuine product substance and remarkably current content, despite a heavy reliance on corporate buzzwords in its primary navigation. It is a ‘Trust Giant’ that manages to be both informative and excessively jargon-heavy simultaneously.
Upgrade schema_json to include Organization and Person types, specifically linking CEO Kumsal Bayazit and key editors to verified external profiles. Convert vague H2 headings like ‘Innovative solutions that help advance human progress’ into substance-led headings that mention specific sector growth or user stats. Link the review_count metrics to third-party verification platforms or a transparent internal methodology page to move beyond trust theatre. Reduce the repetition of the ‘Advancing human progress’ slogan in sub-page H3 tags to increase information density.
Elsevier fits the Media, News & Publishing category as a dominant scientific and medical publisher. The content strictly confirms this through its extensive catalog of 2,900+ journals and specialized databases like ScienceDirect and Scopus.
“The score of 29 indicates Low BS. Information Density (11/30) and Commodity Fingerprint (6/15) were the primary drivers due to heavy corporate jargon and power-word saturation in headings. The score remained low because the site provides extensive lists of specific products and incredibly fresh, dated content in its Connect section.”
This training module utilizes a snapshot of public data from Elsevier, captured on May 30, 2026, to demonstrate how machine logic evaluates different types of business narratives.
Purpose: This data is presented under “Fair Use” / “Educational Exception” for the purpose of forensic semantic analysis, allowing users to compare human intuition against machine-generated evaluations.
Notice to Elsevier: This analysis is part of a non-adversarial audit conducted by 1 Euro SEO. The results provided by 1EuroSEO are intended as professional feedback to help improve any website’s machine-readability and authority signals. The 1EuroSEO BS Detection Tool is a free tool, and anyone can test any company to see how their content is interpreted by AI models.
Any company can use the insights for free and improve its voice by comparing it to industry clichés or competitors. When a company has updated its content, it can always submit a new audit request, which will be reflected in a new current score.
