I had an earlier Tilopa version before but this one is even sturdier and more comfortable. I use this backpack on a daily basis to carry my gear around - varying from video to phot setup depending on the job. This backpack with the large ICU fits a loooooot of gear!All the pockets are easily accessible even when the backpack is fully loaded. Even when fully loaded it is super comfortable to carry and you have many options to adjust the backpack to your needs. The waist strap is helping a lot with carrying heavy weights for longer times. If you replace the large ICU with a smaller one you get the best of both worlds - Camera gear safely stowed and plenty of room for hikes or any other activity. The flexibility to place the gatekeeper straps wherever you need them and (almost) all buckles being metal makes this even longer lasting than previous versions. Fully recommend this backpack and would definitely buy again! It took a while to get the right setup with the ICUs but now we can finally transport a fully rigged FX3 and accessories in the Large Pro ICU. On top of that we're rocking a small shallow ICU with the photo cameras and lenses, so everything is always with me. The straps are more than comfy, even with a higher load, and fit so well. The materials, the build, even the quality of the zipper construction struck me as being more akin to the high-end climbing packs I was used to and less like any camera bag I have used in my 30 year career. One of the best things about the bag is the modularity, how I cam change the fit from a travel bag where I take all of my bodies and lenses etc down to a day-pack for a specific mission, tightening up the fit to allow room for non-camera essentials like food, clothing, and technical gear. The fit is amazing, it's clear f-stop really puts a ton of time into R&D on how a bag should fit your body. Finally - for those in love with organization this pack is absolutely for you. I kept discovering more stash pockets to my delight, and have a custom-fit bag featuring a place for everything. One important note for travelers - I can fit my 17" HP laptop in the bag between the ICU and the body without issue. My only complaint about this bag is the side pockets don't secure a water bottle. I use this bag in the field all day and need to carry water in a reusable bottle on the side. Having used it in the Sub Antarctics, in Fiordland (NZ), Gabonese Jungle trekking for a month after monkeys - where tough canvas packs are put to the test, I can say without hesitation that this is the real deal for serious expedition photography. Here at home, Fiordland is brutal on gear. Horizontal rain, swollen river crossings, razor sedge, and mud that swallows boots whole. The Sub Antarctics add a different dimension entirely. Salt spray, kelp scrambles, and the kind of sustained wet that makes you question every piece of kit you own. The Shinn handled both without complaint. The weather resistance is exceptional. After full days in driving Fiordland rain, my camera bodies and glass were dry. No garbage bag liners, no frantic mid-downpour reshuffling, just confidence. The welded seams and durable face fabric held up to repeated scraping through low beech forest and tussock without showing any meaningful wear. Loved my old one, and it’s travelled the world with me, but needed to upgrade for extra space. The bag is great - bar one change - the waist strap is no longer a plastic side release buckle. It’s two interlocking metal pieces: which clink and clatter… but more importantly, is impossible to remove without slackening, and impossible to remove with two hands. So I have to put my kit down, to take the bag off, which, when shooting on the go is often the difference between getting the shot, and not. Worse yet, if I need to get the bag off in an emergency, it’s a fiddly process. I probably would buy another one, but I’d definitely look at what else is on the market first.
