Find out more "I love living in Exeter, there are so many gorgeous green spaces and we are so close to the beach, so the summer term is perfect! It’s so easy to travel down to Exmouth or Dawlish on the train and soak up the sun. Not only do I now have practical skills, but I also have so much experience to put on my CV that will help me find jobs in the competitive performing arts industry post-graduation. The careers support at Exeter is amazing, I’ve found out about the next steps I can take to pursue jobs in the industry and feel completely supported as I get ready to graduate." Elsie studying BA Drama at our Streatham Campus. [IMG: Slide 1 Image] "Exeter feels like a close and small family to me. I’ve met people from diverse backgrounds with unique stories and perspectives, which has helped me to expand my mindset about a lot of things and overall enriched my university experience. This lively environment has made my time here enjoyable and memorable, and I am sure that these are the days I am going to cherish in my life going forward." Namit studying MSc financial Analysis and Fund Management at our Streatham Campus. [IMG: Slide 2 Image] "I have no doubt that this course is the best step I could take towards my professional development. The extracurricular events such as weekly guest seminars and frequent career services such as fairs create an environment which encourages networking and shows that countless job, placement and PhD opportunities exist. Conservation is essential all over the world which is why I love the international approach taken by my course, whether it be learning about the work of the academic staff or going on field courses. I have had the chance to spend two weeks travelling across Kenya to learn about the challenges of human-wildlife interactions and conservation initiatives in unique tropical ecosystems." Hugo studying MSc Conservation and Biodiversity at our Penryn Campus. [IMG: Slide 3 Image] "My course, BSc Marketing and Management, shares a lot of modules in its first year with students doing other Business School courses, which has been great for meeting loads of different people from all walks of life. As part of the ‘With Industrial Experience’ programme, I am looking forward to spending the third year of my course gaining first-hand insight and knowledge of the business sector, which will really help my employability after my degree is completed. " Dominique studying BSc Marketing and Management at our Streatham Campus. [IMG: Slide 4 Image] "I live locally, so choosing Exeter was actually a pretty easy decision for me. It meant I could stay close to home, but also study a really niche course – I’m doing Sport and Exercise Medical Sciences, which only two other unis provide. Plus, the cricket programme here is top tier, which was a massive part of why I chose it too." Lucy studying BSc Sports and Exercise Medical sciences at our St Luke's Campus. [IMG: Slide 5 Image] "For me, the programme's emphasis on hands-on learning in data approaches and modelling tools stood out. It went beyond theory by incorporating real-world data science problems into modules, resulting in a practical and analytical approach that considerably prepared us for the challenges of our future employment." Daniel studying MSc Applied Data Science (Renewable Energy) at our Penryn Campus. [IMG: Slide 6 Image]

Your Diagnosis
Before revealing the machine’s verdict, predict the BS score for each signal. Higher = more BS (more fluff, less verifiable substance). Drag each slider, then submit to compare your judgment against the engine.
Stuck? Reveal the heuristic lens — how the deterministic page-auditor reads each signal (no AI, pure pattern rules)
These are the structural rules a local, deterministic auditor applies — the same lens you can use to judge each signal. They describe what to look for, not this company’s result.
Classify each sentence as substantive or hollow. Grounding markers — numbers, currencies, dates, technical units, named entities — outweigh marketing adjectives. When fluff sits right next to hard evidence, the fluff is forgiven.
Pull the main entities out of the H1, then check whether they actually recur through the body. A page that announces one thing and then talks about another drifts. Headings with no real sentences underneath read as pseudo-substance.
Count trust words (review, testimonial, rating, verified) against real outbound proof links (Google, Trustpilot, Clutch, G2, Yelp). Lots of trust language with zero verification links is trust theatre. Unlinked logo galleries count against it.
Look at how much sentence length varies. Natural writing varies its rhythm; templated or mass-produced copy is statistically uniform. Very low variation reads as commodity content — unless unique named entities break the pattern.
Inspect the JSON-LD. Is there an Organization or Person schema, and does it carry sameAs links to real external profiles (LinkedIn, socials)? Missing schema or no identity declaration signals an anonymous entity.
Want to apply this lens yourself? The free BS Indicator Chrome extension runs these heuristic checks live on any page. Bear in mind it is a single-page, deterministic tool — it relies only on pattern rules for the page in front of it and does not perform the cross-page semantic correlation this audit uses, so its readout is a starting lens, not the full verdict.
Based on 816 businesses audited.
Education, Schools & Universities BS: University of Exeter (exeter.ac.uk)
This is a benchmark for low-BS institutional communication; marketing language is secondary to verified third-party rankings and specific student outcomes. The site effectively uses its status as an elite institution to provide data-backed claims rather than relying on pedagogical buzzwords.
Consolidate the multiple H2 Education and Research headers into specific titles such as World-Leading Dementia Research or Innovative Undergraduate Education to reduce heading fluff. Include links to full case studies or peer-reviewed outputs within the Research H2 sections to provide a direct proof path for the rewriting the future claims. Provide more granular faculty qualifications in the Expert Search area of the homepage to move from an expert claim to an expert proof. Standardize the testimonial display to include LinkedIn profiles or graduation years to further distance them from generic marketing templates.
The content perfectly aligns with the Education and University sector, explicitly referencing academic research, campuses in Exeter and Cornwall, and Russell Group membership. The presence of specific degree titles and student outcome data confirms this as a high-authority educational institution.
“The score of 21 is driven primarily by minor deductions in Information Density and Commodity Fingerprint.
