Little Petals is a family-run nursery, led by our Manager, Stephanie Doyle, and Deputy Manager, Laura McNelis. We’re committed to providing a warm, safe, and nurturing environment that supports every child’s individual needs.We’re registered to care for up to 80 children aged 4 months to 5 years, and we’re open from 8:00am to 6:00pm.We understand the worries parents can feel when balancing work and family life — especially when leaving a child for the first time. That’s why we focus on helping every child feel secure, happy, and cared for.To support this, we offer a gradual settling-in process. Children spend time in their playroom with a parent or carer first, then slowly build up time at the nursery on their own, getting to know their Key Worker and building a trusting relationship.

At Little Petals, we know caring for children is a huge responsibility, and we take it very seriously. Our staff are carefully selected for their experience, kindness, and commitment to providing the very best care in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).All team members are appointed through a thorough recruitment process in accordance with Ofsted requirements and complete an enhanced DBS check before joining us. Our rooms are led by qualified practitioners, supported by trained assistants, and all staff are fully trained in Safeguarding, Health & Safety, and Paediatric First Aid.We’re proud of our stable team and low staff turnover, with many staff members having been part of Little Petals since the very beginning.

Little Petals is arranged into three welcoming rooms, allowing children to grow at their own pace in an environment that feels just right for them. As their confidence and abilities develop, they are gently introduced to new experiences and challenges.We use age as a guide, but transitions are always guided by each child’s individual needs and in partnership with parents.

Where your child’s learning begins…Rosebuds is our dedicated space for children under two years old, designed to support the unique needs of babies and toddlers during this crucial stage of development.We recognise that the first two years are fundamental in shaping a child’s learning and growth. In Rosebuds, we provide a calm, secure environment where children feel safe and confident to explore. Our experienced team follows consistent routines and responsive caregiving practices to support secure attachments and emotional wellbeing.Our carefully planned environment promotes early communication and language, physical development, and sensory exploration. Through safe, age appropriate resources, sensory play, stories, music, and movement, we encourage curiosity and active learning. Children are supported as they develop key skills from sitting to crawling to walking, grasping, early mark making, social interaction and beyond.We place strong emphasis on partnership with parents to ensure each child’s individual routine, interests, and developmental milestones are supported. In Rosebuds, we provide the essential foundations that give every child the best possible start in life.

As part of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), our under 2’s primarily focus on the Prime Areas of learning. By embedding these aspects into everyday routines, play experiences and interactions, we ensure that every child in Rosebuds develops the secure foundations needed for future learning and development.

01Physical DevelopmentChildren are given daily opportunities to move freely and safely, developing strength, coordination, and control through crawling, climbing, balancing, sensory exploration and fine motor activities. We also support growing independence through self feeding and early self care skills.

02Personal, Social & Emotional DevelopmentWe provide consistent routines and responsive caregiving to help babies form secure attachments and feel safe within their environment. Through warm interactions and sensitive support, children develop confidence, independence, and a positive sense of self.

03Communication & LanguageOur practitioners model language throughout the day, responding to babbles, gestures, and early words to encourage communication. Stories, songs, rhymes, and meaningful conversations help to build listening skills, understanding, and early vocabulary. We also follow the ‘Signalong’ scheme - further supporting your child’s communcation.

It’s an exciting stage of development where independence blossoms and new skills appear every day.Encouraging “I can do it!” momentsChildren are gently supported as they learn to do more for themselves - from early toilet training to communicating more confidently and building friendships.Learning through explorationWith stimulating equipment and engaging resources, children are encouraged to explore, experiment, and problem-solve in a safe and supportive environment.A space for play, creativity and restSunflowers includes a cosy sleep area for children who enjoy an afternoon rest, alongside a creative space where they explore paint, playdough, and early scissor skills.The main room features a large role-play area that inspires imagination, storytelling, and growing confidence.

A safe indoor play space filled with soft equipment that encourages movement, creativity and confidence — keeping babies and toddlers active and happy all year round.

[H4] Rosebuds Garden
Our youngest children have their own newly built garden — a safe, calm outdoor space created just for them. With plenty of room to explore and carefully chosen toys, it allows babies to enjoy fresh air and outdoor play in a secure, nurturing environment.

[H4] The Great Outdoors
We make the most of fresh air every day. Children enjoy regular outdoor play in our own garden, with covered areas for all-weather exploration. We also visit the local park for nature walks and seasonal events, giving children space to move, discover, and build lasting memories.

At Little Petals Day Nursery, we are committed to being open, transparent, and fair in relation to our fees, government-funded early education, and any additional charges that may apply. Our approach promotes healthy eating and positive food experiences through freshly prepared, balanced meals, alongside our commitment to safeguarding, inclusion, and the wellbeing of every child in our care.

Government-funded early education hours contribute towards the cost of childcare provision but do not cover all operational expenses associated with delivering high-quality early years education and care. Families accessing funded hours may therefore see additional charges for consumables or services that fall outside the funded entitlement, in line with Department for Education guidance.

Meals & Food Provision

At Little Petals Day Nursery, we care for a number of children with diagnosed food allergies and intolerances. To ensure we maintain the highest standards of safety, minimise the risk of cross-contamination, and provide consistent supervision at mealtimes, we are unable to accommodate packed lunches or food brought in from home. This approach allows us to create a safe, inclusive and carefully managed eating environment for all children.This approach enables us to maintain strict allergy controls, prevent cross-contamination, ensure consistent supervision of food intake, and meet our safeguarding and welfare duties under the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).Families are informed of this arrangement at the enquiry stage to ensure transparency and allow them to choose the setting that best meets their individual preferences and needs.

Food and snack provision is not optional for safeguarding reasons. All other consumables and additional services listed below are optional, and parents may choose to provide suitable alternatives where appropriate, subject to our nursery policies.

Starting school is a special milestone for every child — and for their families too. At Little Petals, we believe this next chapter should be celebrated and carefully supported, ensuring each child leaves us feeling confident, capable, and excited for what lies ahead.We understand that change can sometimes feel overwhelming for both children and parents. That’s why we take great care to make the transition to school as smooth and reassuring as possible. Our goal is for every child to feel ready to learn, ready to make new friends, and ready to begin their new journey with confidence.To support this transition, we plan thoughtful and engaging activities such as:Uniform Days to help children feel familiar and proud in their new school attireStories about Starting School to encourage discussion and answer questionsRole Play Activities to build confidence and understanding of school routinesAt the end of the summer term, each child’s Learning and Development Summary is shared directly with their new school, helping teachers understand their strengths, interests, and next steps.We also value close communication with local schools. Where possible, we invite teachers to visit the nursery so they can meet the children in their familiar and comfortable learning environment.Transition is not just a moment — it is a process. We warmly welcome input from parents and carers at any time, as working together ensures the very best start for every child.
