[H4] Kytelers Inn work closely with local suppliers, for example, local butcher Micheal Mullins has crafted the perfect “Banger”(sausage) that is made from pork reared in Kilkenny, using Guinness and Leek as ingredients. This is perfectly accompanied by local beer from Sullivan’s, the original family to brew beer in Kilkenny.

Welcome to the best bar in Kilkenny for Live Irish Music. During the High Season Kytelers Inn has Traditional Irish Music every night of the week. To keep up to date with who is playing please check our social media sites and our weekly listings page.
Our live trad music is free for all to hear, but we ask that you make a purchase at the bar when staying to enjoy the wonderful entertainment. Your purchase allows us to pay the musicians and to let them keep doing what they do best…

[H1] Kyteler’s Whiskey Menu

[H4] The word whiskey is an anglicisation of the Classical Gaelic word uisce meaning “water”. Distilled alcohol was known in Latin as aqua vitae. This was translated into Old Irish as uisce beatha.
Appropriately it means “Water of Life”.
Kilkenny holds the earliest known record of the distillation process. Written about by Bishop Ledrede circa 1324 in the Red Book of Ossory. We can truly call ourselves the Home of Irish Whiskey.
A personally curated collection of over 90 Irish whiskeys by JD Flynn, showcasing the best of what Ireland has to offer.

…but don’t ask for Bourbon or Scotch as you will be sorely dissapointed. Kytelers Inn bar only stocks the best of IRISH whiskey. When you’re visiting Ireland its best to try what the locals enjoy.

[H2] Main Bar

The Main Bar is a focal point for conversation, traditional Irish music and bar food of excellent quality and value.
Kytelers Inn is not a formal restaurant, but its unique atmosphere and traditional dishes make it an ideal spot for casual dining.
The mixture of solid oak beams, open hearth and liscannor stone contribute to the old but cosy atmosphere of this bar. Enjoy supping a Guinness whilst listening to trad music nightly during the summer months.

[H2] Tavern Bar

Going down one level, this fascinating bar features the oldest pillars in the premises – made from Kilkenny Marble and dating back to 1324. The Tavern Bar is divided into three areas, each with its own special atmosphere.The most popular is an area close to The Kilkenny Marble Pillar and, with a little notice, we can arrange Irish Coffee –making demonstrations for groups as well as ‘Pull Your Own Pint’ tables which are located in the Top Bar. The Tavern Bar was once the cellar and kitchen of the house.

The top floor of Kytelers Inn houses a large and atmospheric space called The Top Bar. Reminiscent of a Baronial Hall, it can be configured to suit a wide range of events including wedding receptions, family and office parties, product launches, corporate receptions, meetings, music and literary performances and it has even become a theatre during Kilkenny Arts Week. The Top Bar has many quirky features including a Church Pulpit which has a new life as a DJs box, period artworks and split level seating.
At weekends it becomes a Late Bar with music and the hub of the Kilkenny social scene.

[H2] Courtyard Bar

Leading from the Tavern bar this suntrap courtyard is the place to be with a full service of food and drink.
The Courtyard at ground floor level provides an al-fresco dining space with full bar facilities and incorporates a designated smoking area. Guests can watch sport on wide screen televisions, DJs and live bands provide music and there are summer barbecues. It is also possible to reserve areas of the Courtyard for private parties.
The Courtyard features the original fresh water wells that provided St. Francis Brewery with the water to make the original Smithwicks Beer.

[H2] Kyteler’s Irish Whiskey launches to celebrate the legendary tale of Dame Alice Kyteler

Kyteler’s Inn released a premium Irish whiskey in honour of Ireland’s most bewitching spirit.
Known for its haunting connection to Ireland’s first condemned witch, Kyteler’s Inn was first established by the notorious Dame Alice de Kyteler in the 13th Century.  One of the oldest inns in Ireland, its first owner occupies a special place in the history of Kilkenny. The daughter of a Norman banker, Alice de Kyteler married four times and in the process amassed a considerable fortune. Local jealousies abounded and she was eventually accused of witchcraft and sentenced to be burned. Her excellent connections with local gentry ensured however that she was ‘spirited’ out of the country to England before the execution could take place.
Kyteler’s Irish Whiskey was launched as part of the Home of Halloween Festival in October 2025.
