[IMG: Vintage Aquastar Deepstar with the 1964 no-decompression bezel]
A Dive Into Time
[H2] In 1964, Aquastar patented the bezel that would save divers’ lives.
The pre-dive computer didn’t exist. Decompression tables lived in laminated cards strapped to wrists or sewn into wetsuits. Mistakes weren’t corrected by an app, they ended in the bends.
The solution was mechanical: a unidirectional bezel marked with the actual decompression times for repeated dives. Filed at the Swiss patent office as CH 436 140 by Aquastar S.A. of Geneva, inventor Marc Jasinski. Rotate, count, surface. The Marine Nationale issued it. Mayol wore it past 100 meters on his Benthos 500. Philippe Cousteau filmed in it.
Aquastar still makes it. The bezel hasn’t changed.

A working tool. Not a fashion statement.
Aquastar doesn’t have brand ambassadors. We don’t pay actors, athletes, or influencers to wear our watches. The photographs on this page were sent to us by working divers, commercial saturation divers, surface-supply divers, helmet divers, who bought their Aquastar with their own money and wore it to work.
They send the pictures because the watch did the thing they bought it for: it kept running. After a saturation rotation, after a cold-water working dive, after a job that put real depth and real time on the case, the watch came back up working. That’s the proof Aquastar exists to deliver.
The Benthos lineage went into the U.S. Navy diving manual the year it shipped. The third-generation Benthos was the watch the Marine Nationale issued to its combat divers for six years. None of that history is marketing. It’s in the procurement records, the patents, the photographs.
Today, the people who buy Aquastar generally already know that. They’re divers, ex-divers, dive-watch collectors, and the occasional sailor or pilot who wants a watch built the way the working world wants it built. The photos below are theirs.

[H1] Aquastar Airstar.
Aquastar’s sole concession to the cockpit. A 200 m chronograph for the people who fly the planes that brought us to the dives.
The Airstar story
[H2]
A departure from the dive watch, built like one anyway.

The original 1965 Airstar was a chronograph for pilots and aquanauts, Jacques Mayol and Philippe Cousteau both owned one. It departed from the dive tradition but kept the dive ethos: 200 meters of water resistance, a screw-down crown, a hardened crystal. The 60th anniversary Re-Edition uses a soigné-grade La Joux-Perret L113 column-wheel movement made exclusively for the Airstar, the same family of caliber that powers the Deepstar III.

[H1] Aquastar Benthos.
The first dive watch rated to 500 meters without a monobloc case. The U.S. Navy diving manual added it the year it shipped.
The Benthos story
[H2]
Approved in the U.S. Navy diving manual , throughout the 1970s.

The 1970 Benthos 500 used a screwed case back with a new gasket pattern that meant it could go to 500 meters and still be serviced. Every modern Benthos, the Heritage II, the H1, the Professional, the 500 II, uses the same case architecture. The crown sits at 2 o’clock. The bezel marks elapsed time in 120 clicks. The dial is semi-gloss black with X1 SuperLumiNova.

Your Diagnosis

Before revealing the machine’s verdict, predict the BS score for each signal. Higher = more BS (more fluff, less verifiable substance). Drag each slider, then submit to compare your judgment against the engine.

Information Density 0 / 30
Read the Narrative & headings: do hard facts (prices, dates, numbers) outweigh fluff power-words?
Semantic Coherence 0 / 20

💡 Stuck? Reveal the heuristic lens — how the deterministic page-auditor reads each signal (no AI, pure pattern rules)

These are the structural rules a local, deterministic auditor applies — the same lens you can use to judge each signal. They describe what to look for, not this company’s result.

Information Density

Classify each sentence as substantive or hollow. Grounding markers — numbers, currencies, dates, technical units, named entities — outweigh marketing adjectives. When fluff sits right next to hard evidence, the fluff is forgiven.

Semantic Alignment

Pull the main entities out of the H1, then check whether they actually recur through the body. A page that announces one thing and then talks about another drifts. Headings with no real sentences underneath read as pseudo-substance.

Trust & Proof

Count trust words (review, testimonial, rating, verified) against real outbound proof links (Google, Trustpilot, Clutch, G2, Yelp). Lots of trust language with zero verification links is trust theatre. Unlinked logo galleries count against it.

Commodity Fingerprint

Look at how much sentence length varies. Natural writing varies its rhythm; templated or mass-produced copy is statistically uniform. Very low variation reads as commodity content — unless unique named entities break the pattern.

Identity & Authority

Inspect the JSON-LD. Is there an Organization or Person schema, and does it carry sameAs links to real external profiles (LinkedIn, socials)? Missing schema or no identity declaration signals an anonymous entity.

Want to apply this lens yourself? The free BS Indicator Chrome extension runs these heuristic checks live on any page. Bear in mind it is a single-page, deterministic tool — it relies only on pattern rules for the page in front of it and does not perform the cross-page semantic correlation this audit uses, so its readout is a starting lens, not the full verdict.

5 BS / 100

Aquastar is a rare specimen of a brand that uses historical substance to preempt marketing fluff. By providing specific patent numbers and nearly a hundred photos of watches covered in actual mud and sea salt, it renders traditional BS detection tools almost unnecessary. It is a masterclass in utility-led positioning for a luxury-priced product.

To achieve a near-zero score, the brand could link the ‘As featured in’ logos directly to the specific archival articles to provide a complete digital proof path. Adding a direct link to the Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property record for patent CH 436 140 would further solidify the technical claims. The ‘Customer Care’ section could be expanded with specific service center addresses and names of lead watchmakers to match the authority of the historical inventors. Finally, providing a downloadable PDF of the original Marine Nationale procurement records would eliminate any remaining shadow of a doubt.

Aquastar is a textbook fit for the high-end horology sector, specifically professional-grade tool watches. The content focuses entirely on mechanical specifications, historical provenance, and depth ratings rather than the decorative cliches often found in general jewelry marketing.

“The score of 5 is driven by the minimal presence of template sections in the footer and the necessary but technically generic 'Customer care' blocks. This is among the lowest BS scores achievable for a commercial entity, reflecting a site built on forensic history and technical specificity.”
