For people with type 2 diabetes, your A1C is an important number. If your blood sugar is almost 7%, that isn’t a bad place to be. After all, any improvement in blood sugar—no matter how small—is important. Welchol could help you go further. In 3 pivotal studies, Welchol, when added to metformin, sulfonylurea, or insulin therapy, helped lower A1C by 0.5%, as compared to placebo—a significant reduction. In clinical trials, the adverse reactions observed in ≥2% of patients, and more commonly with Welchol than placebo (“sugar pill”), regardless of investigator assessment of causality seen in: Adult patients with Type 2 Diabetes were: constipation, low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), indigestion (dyspepsia), nausea, high blood pressure (hypertension), and back pain Welchol may increase blood levels of metformin when taking metformin extended release (ER). PRINT SAVINGS CARD NOW Potential Savings ON WELCHOL PRINT SAVINGS CARD NOW Restrictions apply [H1] Welchol works in the digestive tract and is not broken down by the liver Photos depict models, not actual patients or healthcare professionals. While statins work in the liver, Welchol is a treatment that goes to work in your intestines, lowering both your LDL (bad) cholesterol and your high blood sugar (A1C) levels. The way Welchol lowers blood sugar is unknown. Welchol is not for everyone. Please see Important Safety Information below. Important Safety Information Prescribing Information [H1] What is Welchol® (colesevelam HCl)? Welchol, along with diet and exercise, lowers LDL or “bad” cholesterol. It can be taken alone or with other cholesterol-lowering medications known as statins. Welchol lowers LDL cholesterol in boys, and in girls who have had a menstrual period, ages 10 to 17 years, with a condition known as heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (a genetic disorder that causes high cholesterol) alone or with other cholesterol-lowering medications known as statins after inadequate control with diet alone. Welchol, along with diet and exercise, also lowers blood sugar levels in adult patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus when added to other anti-diabetes medications (metformin, sulfonylureas, or insulin). Welchol should not be used to treat type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. Welchol has not been studied with all anti-diabetes medications. Welchol has not been studied in children younger than 10 years old or in girls who have not had a menstrual period. Welchol is available by prescription only. Ask your HCP if Welchol is right for you. Welchol is not for everyone, especially those with: a history of intestinal blockage, blood triglyceride levels of greater than 500 mg/dL, or a history of pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas) due to high triglyceride levels. Welchol has not been shown to prevent heart disease or heart attacks. Tell your health care provider (HCP) if you have high triglycerides (greater than 300 mg/dL). Tell your HCP if you have stomach or intestinal problems, including gastroparesis (when the stomach takes too long to empty its contents), abnormal contractions of the digestive system, a history of major gastrointestinal tract surgery, if you have trouble swallowing, or if you have vitamin A, D, E, or K deficiencies. Welchol has known interactions with cyclosporine, glimepiride, glipizide, glyburide, levothyroxine, certain birth control pills, olmesartan medoxomil, and metformin extended release (ER). Welchol has not been studied with all combinations of drugs and supplements. Please tell your HCP about all medications and supplements you may be taking before beginning Welchol, as your HCP may tell you to take your other medications and supplements 4 hours before taking Welchol. Remember to tell your HCP if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding. Welchol (colesevelam HCl) for Oral Suspension should not be taken in its dry form. Welchol for Oral Suspension is recommended for, but not limited to, use in appropriate pediatric patients as well as any patient who has difficulty swallowing. Phenylketonurics: Welchol for Oral Suspension contains 27 mg phenylalanine per 3.75 gram dose. In clinical trials, the adverse reactions observed in ≥2% of patients, and more commonly with Welchol than placebo (“sugar pill”), regardless of investigator assessment of causality seen in: Adult patients with high LDL (“bad”) cholesterol were: constipation, indigestion, nausea, accidental injury, weakness, sore throat , flu-like symptoms, runny nose, and muscle aches Pediatric patients with high LDL (“bad”) cholesterol were: inflamed nasal passages and throat, headache, fatigue, creatine phosphokinase (a muscle enzyme) increase, runny nose, and vomiting Adult patients with Type 2 Diabetes were: constipation, low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), indigestion (dyspepsia), nausea, high blood pressure (hypertension), and back pain You are encouraged to report negative side effects of prescription drugs to the FDA. Visit www.fda.gov/medwatch, or call 1-800-FDA-1088. Click here for Full Product Information for Welchol. Welchol® (colesevelam HCl) lowers “bad” cholesterol differently from statins. While statins work in your liver, Welchol works in your intestines. It’s a “bile acid sequestrant” indicated to lower LDL or “bad” cholesterol. Bile acids are needed to help digest fat from the foods we eat. Welchol attaches to bile acids and removes some of them from the body. When levels are reduced, your liver needs to make more. Your liver takes cholesterol from the bloodstream to do so—lowering your “bad” cholesterol. Welchol also lowers your A1C. It’s not known exactly how it does this, but studies have shown that, when added to metformin, sulfonylurea, or insulin therapy, Welchol helped significantly lower A1C levels in adults with type 2 diabetes. Welchol may increase blood levels of metformin when taking in combination with metformin extended release (ER). Check with your doctor about monitoring your blood sugar levels. Welchol is not for everyone, especially those with blood triglyceride levels of greater than 500 mg/dL, those with a history of pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas) due to high triglyceride levels, or those with intestinal blockage. Ask your doctor if Welchol is right for you. [H6] Please see Important Safety Information about Welchol below. Your Diagnosis
Before revealing the machine’s verdict, predict the BS score for each signal. Higher = more BS (more fluff, less verifiable substance). Drag each slider, then submit to compare your judgment against the engine.
Stuck? Reveal the heuristic lens — how the deterministic page-auditor reads each signal (no AI, pure pattern rules)
These are the structural rules a local, deterministic auditor applies — the same lens you can use to judge each signal. They describe what to look for, not this company’s result.
Classify each sentence as substantive or hollow. Grounding markers — numbers, currencies, dates, technical units, named entities — outweigh marketing adjectives. When fluff sits right next to hard evidence, the fluff is forgiven.
Pull the main entities out of the H1, then check whether they actually recur through the body. A page that announces one thing and then talks about another drifts. Headings with no real sentences underneath read as pseudo-substance.
Count trust words (review, testimonial, rating, verified) against real outbound proof links (Google, Trustpilot, Clutch, G2, Yelp). Lots of trust language with zero verification links is trust theatre. Unlinked logo galleries count against it.
Look at how much sentence length varies. Natural writing varies its rhythm; templated or mass-produced copy is statistically uniform. Very low variation reads as commodity content — unless unique named entities break the pattern.
Inspect the JSON-LD. Is there an Organization or Person schema, and does it carry sameAs links to real external profiles (LinkedIn, socials)? Missing schema or no identity declaration signals an anonymous entity.
Want to apply this lens yourself? The free BS Indicator Chrome extension runs these heuristic checks live on any page. Bear in mind it is a single-page, deterministic tool — it relies only on pattern rules for the page in front of it and does not perform the cross-page semantic correlation this audit uses, so its readout is a starting lens, not the full verdict.

Medical Devices, Pharma & Biotech BS: Welchol (Cosette Pharmaceuticals, Inc.) (welchol.com)
This is a high-substance pharmaceutical site that manages to be both legally compliant and informative, though it is hampered by minor trust theatre elements like unlinked review counts. Its unique market positioning is well-supported by clinical data rather than just adjectives. The BS is mostly confined to the ‘healthcare journey’ metaphors used in the primary headings.
Eliminate the ‘Review Count: 5’ metadata field if it does not link to a transparent, third-party review platform, as it currently looks like a fabricated trust signal. Implement Product and Organization schema to provide structured technical authority to search engines. Replace metaphorical H1 headings with substance-led headlines that include the ‘Only FDA-approved’ claim. Provide direct citations (e.g., Journal, Year) next to the mention of ‘3 pivotal studies’ to enhance the proof path.
