Europe is highly diverse, from the Northern Lights to its southern shores. The continent is the second smallest in the world yet offers many different landscapes, such as large mountain ranges like the Alps and the Pyrenees but also vast plains and volcanic regions. The climate is also varied, with the cooler oceanic and continental climates of the north and the subtropical and Mediterranean climates of the south. This is a continent that has been ruled by many nations and their legacies can still be found all around. Each country also has its own culture and language giving this continent its colour and character.
Rich in history
Europe is the cradle of western civilisation and has played an important role in shaping world history. The Romans and the Greeks have made deep and lasting impact on the western world. The Romans were very powerful, and the ruins of Roman structures can be admired in many countries, but especially in Italy. The Greeks left a permanent impression on theatre and philosophy. For example, they invented the political system that we call democracy and still use to this day. Many remnants of the Greeks can be admired in Greece. Unfortunately, some things were lost as this is a part of the globe that has seen it’s fair share of power struggles. Both the First and Second World Wars started on this continent. After the Second World War, it was carved up into Eastern and Western Europe by the Iron Curtain. This split was particularly tangible and clearly visible in Berlin, in the form of a wall that was built straight through the city (across streets and through houses). Capitalism reigned supreme in the west and Communism in the east. Those divisions remained in place until the fall of the wall in 1989. Traces of this and the many other wars to have plagued this continent in recent centuries can still be found everywhere.
Rich in art
Many artistic movements have been brought forth by this part of the world. Some examples would be the Renaissance, Gothic, Baroque, modernism and post-modernism. There are many representations of this still found in the architecture and art. Europeans are also proud of the numerous renowned painters that this continent has spawned. Masterpieces include Leonardo Da Vinci's Mona Lisa (Paris), Rembrandt van Rijn's Night Watch (Amsterdam), Vincent Van Gogh's Sunflowers, Pablo Picasso’s Les Demoiselles d'Avignon, Mondrian’s Victory Boogie Woogie and Claude Monet’s Water Lilies. The highly diverse world of European Art has been distributed and put on display in countless museums throughout many countries. This region is also responsible for many world-famous composers whose music can still be heard daily: Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, etc.
Rich in landmarks
The most famous sights are the Eiffel Tower and Notre Dame in Paris, Trafalgar Square and Big Ben in London, the Colosseum, St. Peter's Square and St. Peter's Basilica in Rome, the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, the Dam in Amsterdam and the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin. Yet this continent has so much more to offer. Take Iceland, for example, with its unique landscape that hardly has any trees but many geysers that send their volcanic mixtures of hot water and steam into the air in a spectacular fashion. You will also find stunning national parks such as the Lake District in Great Britain, the Coto Doana in Spain and the Vysok Tatry in Slovakia/Poland. Europe is a true treasure trove in terms of culture with many well-maintained cathedrals and palaces that tell the story of the continent’s rich heritage in a visual way.

If you have to cancel less than 48 hours before the day your rental was due to start, you'll receive a full refund minus the lower of i) 2 days of your booking, or ii) a fixed fee depending on the country you booked in (£60, €65, CHF76)
Cancel Pay on Collection (pay later) bookings up to the time your rental was due to begin without penalty
Refunds will be processed in full immediately and should reach your account with 7 working days
No refund is provided in the case of no-shows and a fee may apply

What age do I need to be to hire a car?

In the UK, you need to be at least 23 and have held a driving licence for a minimum of a year. Outside the UK, the minimum age varies. If you’re under 25, you’ll need to pay an extra fee per day (called a Young Driver’s Surcharge). The law and insurance terms vary between countries, so the amount depends on where you hire.
If you’re under 25 you can hire cars from Group A (Fiat 500 or similar), Group B (VW Polo or similar), Group C (Vauxhall Crossland or similar), Group E (SEAT Arona or similar) and Group I (MG ZS or similar).

How far in advance should I book a car rental?

Demand for car rentals is very high during the peak times around summer, Christmas, Easter and school holidays, so we recommend you book early to avoid disappointment and ensure you can search the widest range of vehicles available to you.
Whether you choose to Pay Online or Pay on Collection, if your plans change, you can always cancel fee-free and get a full cash refund 48hrs before the day your rental was due to begin.

What do I need to hire a vehicle?

You and any additional drivers must have held a driving licence for a year. Please bring your licence(s) to vehicle collection. Bring your international driving licence or a notarised English translation if:
You’re renting outside of Europe and your driving licence was issued in Europe.
Your licence was issued in a non-roman alphabet like Arabic, Greek, Russian, Hebrew or Japanese.
Your licence was issued in a non-European country and you’re renting outside that country.
You must also bring ID plus:
The payment card used to make the booking. Some vehicles require an additional card in your name.
You may need to bring proof of address. This could be a recent utility bill or bank statement. Your driving licence won’t be accepted as proof of address.
Photo ID taken within the last 10yrs. Passport, driving licence, national identity card or any other form of government-issued ID with a photo is accepted.

How much will it cost to hire a vehicle for a day/week/month?

The price depends on vehicle size, model, availability and location. The easiest way to get a quote is via our website, or you can call our reservation centre.

How long can I hire a car for?

For as little as one day and at most three months. See our long-term rental packages for more info.

Should I get car rental insurance?

When you choose our Vehicle Cover package it will either reduce or remove the excess for damage or theft, depending on which car you choose. Whereas if you pick Vehicle Cover Plus, it will have the same excess reduction benefits whilst also including enhanced Roadside Assistance. This could help with any mishaps like flat batteries or locked-in keys.

What is car hire excess insurance?

Third party cover is automatically included in your rental. Should you damage another vehicle or passengers and their property, you won’t pay for repairs or injuries. However, if you have an accident or the car is stolen, you’ll need to pay a fixed excess fee for the damage on your rental car. The amount depends on the vehicle hired and in which country you hired it. For complete peace of mind, add either Vehicle Cover or Vehicle Cover Plus to your booking to reduce or remove the excess completely.

Can I hire child and baby seats?

We have a range of child and baby seats available depending on age, height and weight. All our car seats can be selected when booking online or via mobile. To ensure availability please select during your vehicle booking.

Do I need winter tyres?
