Our Identity
[H2] The Crest and the Logo
The Strandhill Golf Club crest has been a symbol of who we are since the 1970s. Built around our motto, Friendship in Sport, it captures the spirit of welcome and community that every visitor feels the moment they arrive. Each element of the crest tells the story of this remarkable peninsula. The Wave of the Atlantic, the Carrowmore Tombs, the handshake and Knocknarea Mountain all come together to reflect the place, the people and the values we stand for as a Club.In 2023, we introduced a modernised commercial logo that draws its strength from the two great landmarks that frame our links, the power of the Atlantic Ocean and the presence of Knocknarea Mountain, with the course sitting proudly between them. 1931
Strandhill Golf Club is founded as a nine-hole course. A green tin shed serves as the first clubhouse near the current seventh green along Strandhill beach.1939–1940
John McAlister from Dublin designs a new nine-hole course, opened in May 1940. The club holds its first Winter League, the first of its kind in Irish golf.1945
A dispute with the GUI over the ‘Blue Label Cup’ results in the competition being renamed the Nally Cup.1946
Launch of the North West Inter-Club Shield, precursor to today’s Connacht Shield. Strandhill establishes a proud record in inter-club competitions.1946
Bustard’s Lodge is acquired, the site for the future award-winning clubhouse.1948
New clubhouse opens following the granting of a drinks license.1973
Present 18-hole course opens, redesigned with input from club members. A modern clubhouse is also constructed.1997
Clubhouse is further enhanced and unveiled in its current modern form.2004
Original clubhouse wins the AIB Connacht Clubhouse of the Year award.2005
Clubhouse is accidentally destroyed, prompting redevelopment.2006
New clubhouse opens, coinciding with the club’s 75th anniversary.2006
Ladies branch wins AA Ireland Junior Foursomes title and their first ILGU Western District pennant.2007
17-year-old Tommy McGowan is selected for the Irish Youths team after reaching the semi-finals of the West of Ireland championship.2014
Jimmy Bruen team wins the Connacht Shield.2016
